First part was over 2 and half hours long (but that included the 20 minute break - they had a panel discussion about sound used in Who during it.)

And its not just Murray Gold stuff- its Who related music- so Carmen for example is in there too as it featured in Asylum.

Thanks for that link- some stuff I hadnt heard in there- I didnt know they had cast someone as Troughton (2nd Doctor) for it too- so it must cover Hartnells entire period from the shows start till he left(Im still suspicous that its all a huge elaborate ruse to disguise stiuff for the 50th anniversary).
Good also to have confirmation the special will be more than an hour long.
And interesting, given the usual secrecy around the show, that they plan to announce who the new Doctor is as soon as cast- they must think for some reason this time they cant keep it secret from the press (or Moffats up to something, again Suspect . )

'Visitors travelling through Heathrow Airport in London from Tuesday are to be entertained with a range of Doctor Who themed experiences including appearances from Cybermen, TARDIS photobooths, displays of props and memorabilia, and augmented reality hotspots.

The BBC worldwide event, in partnership with Heathrow, is to celebrate 50 years of Doctor Who. Travellers will be able to take pictures of themselves and friends on alien worlds and be menaced by monsters from the comfort of the TARDIS photobooths. Doctor Who passports will be available containing giveaways including a free episode to download, information about Doctor Who activities in terminal over the summer, and a free digital copy of Doctor Who Adventures Magazine.

To mark the launch of the partnership, on July 16 travellers through Terminal 5 will be able to enjoy performances by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition, Doctor Who novelist Jenny Colgan, author of the recently released Doctor Who: Dark Horizons will also be signing books for fans.

Susan Goldsmith, Operations Director at Heathrow Terminal 5 saidI am delighted that Heathrow has been chosen to host this much loved British iconic series. With visitors from over 180 destinations worldwide, as the UK’s only hub airport, Heathrow offers a fantastic opportunity to bring the Doctor Who experience to an international audience this summer.'-Gallifrey Base

'Doctor Who once more features heavily in the BBC Worldwide Annual Report, making clear how important the series is to the corporation and putting part of the fall in headline sales for the Company, down to the lower number of Doctor Who episodes produced this year.
Doctor Who is one of BBC Worldwide’s biggest brands, sold to over 200 territories around the world. It is named as a key part of the digital business strategy where sales are up by 22.8% on last year.
The report details how the Series 7 premiere was the most watched telecast in the history of BBC America and how in Australia, the first ever cinema night of two episodes from Series 6 was number three at the Australian box office.'- Gallifrey Base

I watched Dinosaurs on a spaceship again last night. Its good fun and I actually liked Amy in this episode as she actually did useful stuff for once. I also love Rory's dad, he's great. The only bit I still hate is the line Solomon said to Nefertiti, its still unacceptable for a kids show and it puts a bad taste element in what is a pretty lighthearted episode, (apart from all the death and mayhem of course). They also missed a trick in making it Nefertiti instead of the Queen of Sheba. But anyway on hindsight I rather liked it.

I completely disagree- young girls growing up are going to encounter slime balls, sleaze balls, and scum bags at some point. I dont believe its the purpose of childrens tv to avoid unpleasantness of this sort, quite the opposite, and it requires a certain existing level of awareness in the child already to equate that particular line with a threat of rape.
Fairy stories have often dealt with sexual subjects, from Rumplestilskin whose very name is a description of a penis, to Little Red Riding Hood which is full of violent sexual imagery and has a warning about predatory males in its subtext.

you can dress it up and make all the excuses you like. The fact is sexual violence has no place in Doctor Who. there are much better ways, much healthier ways of educating children. This is not one of them.

It has had a place in it several times before all the way back to the 1st Doctor viking story in the very first series with its implication of gang rape.

Sexual violence sadly exists in life, and part of the purpose of stories for children is to prepare them for how the world is.
Thats why we cover difficult subjects like violent sex in stories like Little Red Riding Hood, or even Doctor Who.
