Would definitely be interested, Petty. If you don't feel it'll take up too much of your time.
As for the Lothlorien scenes. Would it be possible to do a comparison video or something and put it up on dailymotion? Could be interesting.

Re: Petty's Purist LotR Edits [3]
Just a heads up I have finished editing the HD version of DOS.
So I will be removing the existing AUJ and DOS files from the drive and will replace them with this one single version which is both combined.
All in purist AUJ and DOS joined into 1 film runs to (excluding end credits) 2hrs 32 minutes and 22 seconds.
If there is as much made up nonsense and crap in TABA (and there will be) I reckon the entire Hobbit should fit into 1, 3 and a half hour film.

Yes its a longer but smoother cut.
The rough edit of AUJ and DOS together was about 2hrs 20 minutes. So there's about another 10 minutes or so in this one (thats quite a lot in editing terms)
Areas I would say are notably improved are Mirkwood, the barrel sequence, entering Laketown and the conversation with Smaug.
Also I decided to keep to the Bree scene, all be it heavily modified (amongst other things its back to being a chance meeting again ) it works rather well as a transitional scene between AUJ and DOS.

Good work Petty, glad to hear you're carrying on through it all.

Cool! I'd planned to make myself wait till TaBA had come out before watching the edit again, but now I don't know.... you're starting to tempt me.....

I'm surprised you got that much out of DoS, Petty. There certainly didn't seem to be much there from a book perspective.
And the one 3 and a half hour film certainly sounds an intriguing idea. Looking forward to seeing it.

My computer is dying on me as I type, so I ordered a new one yesterday. That means I probably won't download anything until it arrives, but once I've got it up and running I'll get on to it asap

Re: Petty's Purist LotR Edits [3]
Uploading underway! (non HD version however as its just so much hassle to upload huge files when Im only going to have to redo it when the EE comes out) should make it more pain free to download too however as its only 1.2 gig instead of 10.2!

Re: Petty's Purist LotR Edits [3]
Takes forever to upload Its done 3% since I posted
I havent made any changes to AUJ- there are improvements to be made there, particularly in sound, but that's a major job I will do when I have the whole thing to work on.
Same goes for DOS- I have done some sound work on it, but nothing major, so still some bits need smoothing- but as far as the editing side I am actually quite pleased with the end result (given the starting point was PJ's cut) its definitely a substantial, rather than minor, improvement on the rough cut.
Incidentally I think they changed something to fix an error for this release.
The spiders can now be heard several times saying the odd word before Bilbo puts the Ring on, including bizarrely enough 'attercop' a word they should hate.

Re: Petty's Purist LotR Edits [3]
That's certainly good news.
I like the idea of including the Thorin Gandalf Bree scene, Petty. Though wouldn't it make more narrative sense to have it at the beggining of a single movie? Or do you feel it would foreshadow too much?

Re: Petty's Purist LotR Edits [3]
I thought about it Blue, but I strongly disliked the focus of the start of the film being anyone other than Bilbo.
It also gave me a nice filler scene putting after the eye open shot form end of AUJ and Bilbo on look out at the start of DOS- as otherwise thats a tricky jump from the Carrock scene.

Re: Petty's Purist LotR Edits [3]
Yes, that's what struck me after contemplating it a bit too.
Also it would take away from the viewer the surprise at seeing and discovering the purpose of the dwarves as Bilbo does it.

Re: Petty's Purist LotR Edits [3]
But I did leave the Bree scene in but I did make it slightly less silly- I left in the line where Thorin says the Houses of Dwarves swore an oath on the stone- but I let out the bit where he says they will only follow whoever has it.
So its more symbolically important rather than stupid dwarves will just follow anyone that picks it up and refuse to help anyone who doesn't have it.

Re: Petty's Purist LotR Edits [3]
Yeah, I would agree that is an improvement.
The thing is it's there in the appendices, dialouge and all, but they still felt the need to completely rewrite it. And all to include great ideas like that.

Upload is getting there, slowly. Its in two files, the first one was 800 odd MB and its uploaded and can be downloaded now to save time later, the second file is 500 odd and its currently 20% uploaded. (you need both files to extract the whole edit)

I will be very keen to hear your thoughts on DOS Blue- but if you have the time and can bear it- could you watch from the start of AUJ to see how it holds together as a single film?

Re: Petty's Purist LotR Edits [3]
I'll be watching from the beggining if I do, Petty.
Though I have tried watching AUJ a time or two since it's release and have struggled to get through it.
Strangely I think I prefered DoS, as at least it didn't pretend to have anything to do with Tolkien. AUJ was a mismatch of several different things however.
