Petty's Purist LotR Edits [3]

Any updates on part 4, Petty?

Not that i have time to watch it before mid next week mind.  

Almost finished- if you go into the book 4 folder you will see 4 parts already there- you can download those- the final 5th part is currently uploading and should be finished in about 6-8 hours approx.

I'm currently making rather hard work of rereading Fellowship and it's been quite interesting to watch the edits as I've been reading along. Though I've tried to avoid foreshadowing any events, but in the Lothlorien chapter now and don't think I'll hold of with the rest of it. I would not be watching Jacksons versions right now, but I'm quite interested to see your edits.

Well I have done the impossible! The first very rough cut of a DOS purist edit is complete!   (very rough as all thats available to work with at the mo is an atrocious cam copy thats bareable watchable with terrible sound! But its let me block in where I want to put things and how I am going to cut the film) - it goes on the end of AUJ after the Carrock (minus the Lonely mt shot which is stupid and completely unnecessary now)- the entire running time of AUJ plus DOS in the purist edit is 2hrs 19minutes-depending on what is eventually salvageable from TaBA I reckon by the end it will be one film of about 3hrs 20mins long.

I've just gotten home and haven't had a chance to see the movie yet.
I'm actually tempted to skip it altogether and just watch your purist edit, but I know that wouldn't be fair. I'd be blaming you for what you left in rather than praising you for all that you left out.

So I guess I need to see the movie in the next couple days.

How did you get a copy of DoS, PT?

I cant recommend the purist edit as a first see David- its taken from an atrocious cam recording with awful sound, at this point its really just for anyone who has seen the film and wants to comment on the edit for purposes of refining it later.
Its roughly cut too, as with the quality there was no point spending a lot of time editing transitions and sound properly.

Im afraid you'll have to go see it in all its 'glory' first David.

Rhadaghast - the usual way, I found a torrent- although anyone who watches a cam like that as the first way to see anything is only cheating themselves. I just wanted to see if some of the ideas for how to edit it that came to me as I watched at the cinema would work. And for that purpose a shitty cam is good enough.

Purist very, very rough cut is on the second skydrive.

   wow I want to know just how much of DOS is worth saving. I cant imagine what you could possible save.   

I look forward to your views Ringdrotten (which hopefully wont be too long as its shorter than an episode of Doctor Who)- to save watching all the AUJ edit again just try to put you mind in the frame of this being the last 50 minutes of that film.

Also Ringdrotten bear in mind when watching that as this is the end of the purist edit by the start of DOS Bilbo has not killed anything yet.

I was somewhat surprised myself Mrs Figg. Its still not right of course, but its in my view better and more recognisably like a version of the book than a complete flight of fancy on PJ and the Covens behalf.

Sorry, no chance, not with the film still in cinemas. (it wouldnt last two minutes anyway before being pulled)And the quality really is shocking, its only of interest to anyone who wants to offer any feedback on the choices.

This one is easy to download, Figg - it's all one file, not many different ones you have to put together. It's like downloading a picture.

last time we tried this I needed a password and I could never access it. I think we tried about 10 times or something, but it kept asking me for passwords and other stuff like that.

Ah, okay.

I have to admit to being skeptical about a purist edit though. It seems kind of like mixing mud with peanut butter and then trying to separate the two.
