Re: Tales of Home [2]
Love your pictures and the narrative, Petty. Sounds like a really interesting day. Sorry to hear about the police trouble, though. If only Officer Orwell was there to put in a good word for you.

Re: Tales of Home [2]
She might have gotten him out of a sticky situation, but I think Petty'd have more trouble to deal with when he got home to Mrs Figg.
Re: Tales of Home [2]
Im in enough trouble with Mrs Figgs over the two ladies accompanying me without that too David!

Re: Tales of Home [2]
ok. it's pouring outside. which it seldom do here. i mean. literally, it's so heavy rain outside it's as though i am stepping into a cold shower with my clothes on. I ran outside with leopold for about 3 minutes and i had to change all my clothes! i was wet all the way to my knickers! srsly!! it would've made no difference if i had jumped into a river. it's crazy! and thunders and lightening! i couldn't be more happy i might run out one more time to check my umbrella...
Re: Tales of Home [2]
Good healthy attitude towards nature there, Norc! Revel in the frightfulness. No doubt Leopold watched and waited carefully until you had stripped off half your wet clothes before shaking dry right next to you.

btw, i am so hysterically enthusiastic about the weather, i am uploading a video
Re: Tales of Home [2]
I used to run outside in the rain and splash around in giant muddy puddles and everything. They always formed in our side yard. It was fun but I always got filthy doing it.

Re: Tales of Home [2]
Also, Norway with rain and no snow looks surprisingly ... normal and non-Arctic.
Re: Tales of Home [2]
well, it is normal. also leopold says hi
btw, there is a thunder+lightening in it, at the start, just realised.

Re: Tales of Home [2]
Have to break it to you Norc, down here in the lower latitudes we'd call that an every day rain. If you make it down to the tropics you'll be treated to rains that would make the next door buildings disappear: just a wall of falling water.

Re: Tales of Home [2]
My last day on Rothesay- and the weather was (a bit) better.
So back at the ferry again, which lowers its ramp surprisingly far out from the dock-
Which is quite disconcerting when youre onboard-
Before heading into the wilds of island life we had a small stretch to do in the town of Rothesay- where there was an old abandoned church that nature was determined to reclaim from this God chap-
And its outer walls were covered in something I have never before seen covering a building- heather!
There was also a nice Victorian era mock Tudor house on the route-
But it was time to head out of town and into the countryside, where all the rich people live in hidden dells!
The mountains on the Island of Arran, as seen from the isles of Bute, and some cows.
As if the cows werent clue enough- we were defintely entering Daves world of farming-
This was part of a farm house-
A more traditional looking farm tractors included-
And that was time for lunch- but where to have lunch on an island- on the beach of course-
Sandstone-
Anyone know anything about rocks? As I suspect if you were a geologist you would rather enjoy this beach its full of weird features-
Even more sandstone-
There were some really weird rocks on a cliffside that seemed to have a very noticeably lighter layer in it- in one it was partly exposed and was really weird stuff, didnt feel like rock at all even though it was, well as hard as rock!
A little jellyfish swimming, as I nearly was trying to get a picture of it.
And the whole beach was surrounded in wild flowers-
Some trees I liked-
Remember those hidden rich I mentioned? Well one of the ways you know youve found one is you start passing things like this, a Victorian arboretum in the middle of a field-
The next give away is wild land gives way to sculpted-
Then you turn a corner and see something like this-
With its mix of traditional Scots, French and Gothic-
And you suddenly wouldn be surprised to see a few knights and their squires ride by-
And after much driving, a lot of getting lost, being chased by farm dogs (all of whom were friendly, they just wanted to play or chase the car)
we finished every delivery!
The person I was with however, and who was driving was pretty keen to get home- at which point do you tell someone they may be going too fast?
Now?
Now?
Now?
I think definitely NOW!
After some deceleration I got a picture on the way back of an outcrop I like-
And the home stretch- this is the head of the Holy Loch, where the US navy nuclear submarines and supply vessels were, and on whose banks I grew up in the village of Sandbank. You can see when the tide is out why it gets its name-
And finally a random picture of some sky that I cant remember exactly where I took it, but I think it was just before leaving Rothesay-
