It looks impressive for an independent production. The effects look great. Not sure what I think of the story though. Shrugging

All depends how its done- if its just a lot of people shooting each other it wont be very good, but yo dont get those actors in for that.

It is an official bit of Starfleet history that has never been seen before.
Garth of Izar  is the Captain who supposedly inspired the young Kirk to enter the Academy. (He appeared in TOS episode- Whom Gods Destroy which also mentions how he was central to the events at Axanar as well as what a briliant explorer he was, discovering more new worlds than any other Captain in Starfleet history. Casting is good too, he looks a lot like the original in TOS)

Roberto Orci is to direct the next instalment of the so far bloody awful Star Trek film franchise.

'He has screen writing and producer credits on projects such as the Transformers films and Mission: Impossible III, Cowboys and Aliens, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and co-wrote both of Abrams' Star Trek films. '

So his film CV is pure shit then? Oh good.

This is why currently there are not one but two excellent ST kickstarter projects, its the only place ST fans can get actual ST content and not whatever the hell these films are supposed to be.
Actually I know what they are; mindless, vacant, effects laden toss not worthy of the name Star Trek and an insult to Rodenberry's vision.  Evil or Very Mad

The last film was a reboot of Wrath of Khan- Wrath is about the human condition; ageing, facing death and how we respond to that inevitability, the consequences of ones actions, responsibility and hope in the face of our own mortality.

Into Darkness is about, um, now let me see, oh yes- fuck all squared.  Mad

I get your drift Petty. They found good look a like actors & then proceeded to give them shite lines from a shite script whilst happily using said actors to accentuate the FX & ( here we go again) CGI. God forbid theres even a story ? Ive had arguments with a now ex friend over films like this. He swears blind a director is allowed 'artistic License', its his adaptation & what we see is what the director/producer see's & wants. There's to many people on the planet with their own views over films/books/tv series etc. There's always gonna be those that do & those that dont. I personally believe that if your gonna do a film of a book or TV series & have the gall to put the originators name to it, then you should keep it as close to book or TV as possible, especially if family members are still alive & able to kick up a fuss if it all goes belly up.

I am getting very sick of mainstream films that entirely devoid of any narrative point and are nothing but hollow spectacle.
Nobody seems to have anything to say any more in mainstream film, and worse, no desire to say anything.

Although I could see some survivors from the midwest holding mowing lawns as a higher priority than their own survival. At least in Minnesota it's practically the state sport.

Apparently for ST 3 they are in talks with William Shatner to appear as Kirk alongside old Spock.
Makes you wonder why they dont just make a film with the originals with way they are going.
He was supposed to be in the first film but reportedly turned it down when shown a script which he said 'stunk'.
Having seen the first film I can only assume they just went ahead and filmed that script anyway!

If you're definition of mainstream is limited to $100 million blockbusters I could see his you feel, although films like Hunger Games and even avatar were trying to comment on real issues, however clumsily. But blockbusters with a strong message have always been the exception. Fortunately there is more to mainstream cinema than just blockbusters, even if the trait big movies are the cornerstone of must studios' financial strategies.

I thought the first Star Trek reboot film was great.- Figg

Tied to the quote Eldo put above I didnt think it felt like ST. It wasnt about anything. If it had different looking ships and different character names but otherwise the same plot I doubt anyone would have associated it with ST at all. It didnt feel like ST or anything Rodenberry would ever have signed off on.
And I thought some of the casting was poor- particularly Scotty. Pegg is completely miscast. Wrong look, wrong physicality, wrong personality and somehow an even worse accent than Doohan.
That and it has many ginormous plot holes you could drive the Enterprise through sideways.

And amazingly has even bigger plot holes. But its a good example of what I mean as its basically a bad remake of Wrath of Khan. Wrath was a character study about aging, acceptance of change and loss. How we deal with death and facing up to and accepting responsibility for our actions. With a sub surface on how revenge, hatred and fear can blind us to what we already have.

What was the second reboot film about? Stuff exploding? Shrugging

New fan film that looks like it has some potential, set during the period of Enterprise. ST: Horizons-

And ST: Axanar is due out later this year too-

And there are more episodes of ST: Continues due out (Colin Baker- 6th Doctor- has a role in the next episode)

Three very good reasons if your a ST fan to not give a monkeys about the disastrous reboot film series. cheers

Sad Still 83 isn't a bad number to reach, and on the plus side he wont ruin the character he created any further by being continually trotted out in shite remakes. Got to look on the bright side!
