Do you know how fast beard hair sizzles and burns when it meets red hot metal?
He needs to keep that thing tucked in while he's working or he's gonna look like this:

Re: Artwork inspired by Tolkien
Just because there is nonsense does not mean your pics are not being enjoyed and appreciated Mrs Figg- I put stuff on the Who thread all the time that dont get responses, same with Norc on Sherlock, but I know I am reading Shelock thread whether I comment or not, so just assume the same. Its easier!

Re: Artwork inspired by Tolkien
I enjoy all the pictures Mrs Figg. Even if they're not the way I imagine the characters, it's interesting to get a peek into other people's imaginations.
I'm really like that the artist shows a dwarf actually working iron. With all the references to their craftsmanship, I've always been troubled that none of Tolkien's dwarves ever seem to make or fix anything. It never seemed right that, imprisoned in a dungeon, they weren't every bit as resourceful as McGyver in improvising tools and tunneling. Gimli should have been the armourer of the Fellowship, keeping the weapons and tools sharp and in good repair. That's how my imagination works.
I grew up with a small forge and anvil at hand for quick farm repairs. I don't use it much now, but I still love it. There's a feel and a sound of hammer and anvil that's a bit magic. It seems to ring back to the most ancient of times.
I like that the iron in the picture actually looks hot, but the way he's holding it lacks the proper respect, and the way he's holding the hammer is far too tense and static, like he was holding a pose. It's the look of a person holding a foot in the air versus a person walking naturally.

Re: Artwork inspired by Tolkien
I appreciate it Dave, I like finding new aspects of the stories. what I like about the dwarf is his trade or art being shown, I like Donato's work because its muscular and the prospective is odd, its not girlie like a lot of Tolkien art, its gritty and shows all the blood sweat and tears rather than the merely fluffy Elven stuff.
