Re: Artwork inspired by Tolkien
A couple of erm...interesting interpretations of Gollum.
from a 1976 Soviey illustrated edition:
Tove Jansson's from a 1962 illustrated edition of The Hobbit:
https://wharferj.wordpress.com/2016/01/16/tove-janssons-illustrations-for-the-hobbit/
(LOTR would have played out very differently if that was the Gollum Frodo and Sam travelled with to Mordor...)
Though now I think about it, the weirdest thing about this is Bilbo appears to be wearing pjyamas...
...Which brings me to something else I just realised, in two of Tolkien's own illustrations for The Hobbit, Bilbo appears to be wearing boots:

http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/File:J.R.R._Tolkien_-_Bilbo_comes_to_the_Huts_of_the_Raft-elves_(II).jpg
https://www.reddit.com/r/tolkienfans/comments/ayuubw/quote_from_tolkien_regarding_the_hobbits_wearing/
...So assuming Bilbo had picked up those boots in Rivendell, should we assume his feet are Elvish sized...

Re: Artwork inspired by Tolkien
Gollum pictures: urg.
The Bilbo pictures are not high resolution enough to clearly see, so I pulled out my copy and Hammand and Scull. In the Eagle picture he's very clearly wearing shiny black boots, but in the barrel picture I'd say it looks like bare feet to me: the entire figure is actually black (compare the face to the feet) but I see the features of feet. Not furry feet, but feet.

Re: Artwork inspired by Tolkien
Can't say I'm taken with it. the Barrow Downs scene looks like it's set in a hallway off a school gymnasium. Gandalf looks more like a warlock. What I can only assume are elves look like blue space aliens.

{{ I rather like them as stylised interpretations. Is the artist eastern european? Seems an interesting mix to me between Hungarian/Russian style of art and clasic medieval religous styles. But sure Figg could give some more on that. }}

Re: Artwork inspired by Tolkien
I'm sure she could. I can find very little about Sergei, the artist. The pieces here are a strange mixture of relatively normal and extremely abstracted. Some of the pieces, like the Battle of Bywater or whatever it was towards the end is pretty realistic looking.
I liked that it tied into the pattern of weird Tolkien-inspired art that we've been on in here.
