Ah thanks Eldo! There's another Balrog encounter too... but I like the 'first' one better.
The bear is too large in my opinion as well. I mean I imagine a pretty large Beorn/as bear figure, but...

Re: Artwork inspired by Tolkien
That last one reminds me in style of the sort of paintings often seen on wall plates.

Re: Artwork inspired by Tolkien
I think you're right, chris. The two trees by the side of the door give it away.
That's certainly an interesting interpretation of the Watcher in the Water, though.

Re: Artwork inspired by Tolkien
Im not sure that is supposed to be Moria and its not a more generic D&D type illustration that has nicked some thins from the Tolkiens scene, whilst not representing them close enough for anyone to complain or sue them.

A bunch of artwork from deviant art (for some reason the pics don't show up when I post them directly into the post, so you'll have to click on the links)

(I mainly like that one because it illustrates the scale of the battles in the first Age)

Re: Artwork inspired by Tolkien
You have to open the image in its own tab -- just the image file, ending in .jpg or .png or whatever -- to embed it. Although a lot of those are too big to show up entirely on the page here.
The Oath of Feanor and Gondolin ones are my favorites. Some really great work, there. It's always nice to find gems like that on DeviantArt.

thet guy (mellene) that did Laketown has a wonderful one of Beorns house and Bree. I think his work is very imaginative and atmospheric.

Re: Artwork inspired by Tolkien
The Oath of Feanor is by Jenny Dolfen (Gold Seven)... with whom I have had 'hair discussions' before.
She went with a golden-haired Celegorm (it looks to me anyway)... an 'old-ish' idea rejected by Christopher Tolkien for the constructed Silmarillion based on a statement in Appendix F.
I love Tolkien

It's not the most inventive of art, but I rather like Roger Garland:
