Re: Artwork inspired by Tolkien
Great pics Chris tho I feel the last one with Gandalf looks like a "Tetley tea" advert
I love behind the scenes stuff Figgy ! The imagination they come up with so that we can have 2 or 3 mins of 'non thinking' entertainment

Even that picture seems more animated than Blanchett.

Re: Artwork inspired by Tolkien
Celeborn was a little better in his EE scenes. Galadriel I think got notably more wooden (probably intended to be mystical, came across as obtuse to me) in TH.

Re: Artwork inspired by Tolkien
Like the Eagle pic ! The Ent picture has an iconic late 60's/70's feel.

Re: Artwork inspired by Tolkien
It has that 70s vibe, but overlayed onto the film appearance of the characters involved.
So although it's a really sweet looking design, the mistreatment of Fangorn in the film would keep cropping up in my mind if I had it as a book cover.

Re: Artwork inspired by Tolkien
I much prefer the older pictures & paintings, like this one. I like this, much more natural, something I can have a 'feel' for.

Re: Artwork inspired by Tolkien
That is one mega bear, can do a lot of damage, a bear that size. At least peejers hasnt dressed Beorn up like the bear from The Golden Compass.......... or will he ?

Re: Artwork inspired by Tolkien
I really like that one with Gandalf and the Balrog... even though it's Jackson inspired (reminds me of a bad thing), and seems to include 'real' wings... it's still somewhat rare that I find a Balrog encounter illustration that works well for me.
Subjective as that is.
Anyone know the artist?

Nice picture, but a bit too big for me.
I always pictured Beorn's bear form as being 10-12 feet, say two and half times the size of an orc (when Beorn transforms I'd always picture the proportions remaining pretty similar) but this just makes him looks mahoosive.
