I hope Ben Aaronovich writes an episode, his style is like Neil Gaiman. That Town called Mercy episode was poor. sorry but it was. this new run of episodes are 100x better.

Re: Doctor Who [4]
Its probably the weakest of 7B I would say but has some nice moments in it here and there- I like the entire section where the Doctor throws Jax over the line. Punishing him for the punishment he feels he deserves himself. Probably the best scenes in it are between those two characters. But they could have left Rory behind for all he gets to do in this one, at least Amy gets a a plot moment.
I also like how its shot and Gold's riffs on classic western music with Who twist, oh an Susan the transgender horse.

Re: Doctor Who [4]
Sorry Figgs thats the only place I can find so far.
Glad to have you back enjoying episodes Amarie- not that I can agree with you about the Ponds thing- I think 2 and a half years was a good amount of time and Karen and Arthur choose well, just as Moffat asked them to when they began, in saying when they felt their characters time was comning to an end- for two young actors it must have been tempting, and certainly safer and more financially secure, to have stayed on for the shows biggest year ever, the 50th.
They put the integrity of their characters before themselves, and I salute that.
But I was thinking about Nuwho companions- Rose, though I have my problems with her, was the right companion for the time. The show was back but needed to grab a generation of youngsters who had never seen it. The soap element I dislike worked a treat fror that as it was the most familar form of dramam most kids knew- and once they were hooked the format had room to manouvre.
Martha they seemd unsure what to do with- they ended up playing the she fancies the Doctor card again, and involving her family just like Rose, and it was all a bit flat and a bit of retread feeling, so they took an easy option for Donna- as her character was already established and ready to go and be developed from the previous years Xmas episode.
And though she is my fav 10 companion, she is a stopgap on the proplem of how to play the next companion, as it hadnt worked with Martha too well.
The solution was in fact to give up- they did the specials and had him travelling alone.
So the Ponds were necessary- another everyday single femle character had been done already too much and needed a rest. A married couple and Amy being the centre of the plot from the start rather than just involed in the plot, and trio instead of a duo gave the show a new dynamic and fresh energy.
And now it can go back to a single companion and that feels fresh again.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Doc, Rory and mr Williams taking a trip or five on their own.
Donna was the center plot too, don't forget.

with all due respect Petty if people dont like the Ponds, its peoples opinion and you have to accept it without trying to justify why they are important.

Re: Doctor Who [4]
Um I made the post abott the companions becuase it occured to me whilst I was reading a piece in Gallifrey Base about Martha, which sparked the thought about how the different companions, like or dislike them, were the rigth directioon for the show at the time they happened.
It was not in defense of anyone Mrs Figg. It had nothing to do with defending anyone.

Re: Doctor Who [4]
if you say so- Mrs Figg
I do becuase its why I made the post, I had been mulling it over before Amarie even made her post.
It was only connected to her comment about the Ponds becuase when I came on to put my thoughts in a post I saw hers and responded to it first before going on with the companions bit I had come on to post in the first place.
You just put 2+2 together and got 5 and jumped to your own conclusions and quickly to accusation.
Ally I think they decided to leave at the right time, but I enjoyed the whole Ponds story from start to finish.

Re: Doctor Who [4]
Actually if you were on a Who forum a year or so after the show relaunched it would be just as heated over Rose and Mickey. And if there had been internet at the start it would have been just as fierce between those who liked Susan and those who didnt.
Thats Who fandom for you - I blame the show itself-its so diverse in what it can do and the stlyes it can take on everyone has a differnt version of Who in their head that is the Who they like.

Re: Doctor Who [4]
i was going off what you said.- Mrs Figg
You accused me of defending Amy whenever she was criticised- I wasnt doing that.
I responded to Amaries post in which she had commented on the Ponds and mentioned I didnt agree with her- I didnt defend anyone, I just pointed out that I agreed with her post except that bit.
Then I went on to make the post I had actually come here to make about companions- which again was not a defense of anything.
