Doctor Who: Summer Falls
By Amelia Williams
"When summer falls, the Lord of Winter will arise..."
In the seaside village of Watchcombe, young Kate is determined to make the most of her last week of summer holiday. But when she discovers a mysterious painting entitled ‘The Lord of Winter’ in a charity shop, it leads her on an adventure she never could have planned. Kate soon realises the old seacape, painted long ago by an eccentric local artist, is actually a puzzle. And with the help of some bizarre new acquaintances – including a museum curator's magical cat, a miserable neighbour, and a lonely boy – she plans on solving it.
And then, one morning Kate wakes up to a world changed forever. For the Lord of Winter is coming – and Kate has a very important decision to make.
The ebook is published on 4th April 2013.
In other news Saturdays episode scored an AI of 87-making it the highest scoring drama of the day.

Don't think so no. I cant ever see the two crossing over as in the Who universe Sherlock is fictional.

Very true but the question did come up when the doctor pretends to be Holmes in the xmas special. Moffats reply was that you cant have Sherlock in Doctor Who as a real person as its been established in the show he is fictional.
But hey rules are made to be broken. Especially in Who!

Re: Doctor Who [4]
I loved this scene in Asylum of the Daleks, one of my favourites. (obviously contains spoilers if you havent seen the episode)
Rory encounters some very old Daleks and puzzles over 'eggs'. (Glad this wasnt me or it would just have been brown trousers time. But those old pepper pots still scare me to the marrow, but then I know whats inside them and it aint friendly! )

A Tesla coil is an electrical resonant transformer circuit invented by Nikola Tesla around 1891. It is used to produce high-voltage, low-current, high frequency alternating-current electricity.- wiki
And heres one playing the Doctor Who theme, obviously.

Re: Doctor Who [4]
Thats Karen showing her roots in comedy sketch shows where she didnt seem to mind how she had to look so long as it made the joke or the point.

Re: Doctor Who [4]
Thought of this place as I settled down to watch the new ep. Had to come and see what folks thought and share a few of my own.
- Spoiler:
First off to say I really enjoyed the episode as I watched it, although as all seasons openers do it raised questions. I enjoyed the bells of St. John bit, amused a simple part of my brain I guess, although the idea of the doctor sitting around thinking about Clara rang a little hollow after the christmas episode. That was partly about pulling him out of hs self imposed isolation so I do't buy the runing off to hide and brood some more.
The whole wifi thing was a little too close to the cybermen in tennants era to me. I know it was taken a stage further, but I felt we had been here before, as I did with the base stations (reminded me of the information points in the library with Donna, where the uploading of personalities had already been done too.)
I agree there was a lack of big bad, but I wonder if that came from trying to foreshadow without oer playing, or - this being Moffat- delibrae misdirection. (Are Clara and the GI liked in some way?)
Unlike Petty I didn't dislike knowing nothing new about Clara, I found the banter and not really knowing consistent with the two previous incarnations and felt there were some recurring themes, (the intention to travel, cut short. The taking on board new info and assimilating it quickly, dalek, wifi upload, the Tardis and her control of the weather.) In fact my biggest complaint is that she didn't repeat the 'smaller on the outside' comment as I loved that.
(I also wanted her to die again as I love the idea of her being this continually reincarnated individual signposting events in the doctors life, almost like a continual witness. Not going to be I know, but I like the idea at the moment.)
On a side note my own interpretation of the shop girl was Sally Sparrow, which I prefer, but suspect Petty is right with Rose.
Bring on next week!

Re: Doctor Who [4]
Well it is official BBC release news Norc, but there might be some people whodont want anything given away about the 50th- and thats quite a big give away. Better safe than sorry.
Kafria We have missed our Mayor- nice to know you still thinking of us. Do stop by more often. And its good to read your thoughts on the episode.
I'm not yet in the disliking Clara camp but I would say I was in the not caring enough about her yet camp.
More 50th anniversary news and the return of another classic foe.

- Spoiler:
- Zygons to be precise.
The Zygons were a race of metamorphic humanoids. They originated from the planet Zygor, but often tried to migrate away from it.
Zygons were solidly built humanoids with large, cone-shaped heads. Their heads, arms and torsos were covered in suckers, and they had deeply inset faces. Zygons had dark red blood and spoke in a gurgling whisper. They were stronger than humans and could live for centuries.
Zygon technology was partly biological, with an organic look. This was exemplified by the Skarasen, a large, cybernetically enhanced creature from Zygor.
One of the most important Zygon discoveries was their body-print technology. The Zygons would capture a specimen, such as a human, and put them in a special receptacle. A Zygon could then take the form of this specimen, mimicking both voice and appearance. This body-print needed to be renewed every two hours, while the prisoners were kept alive but unconscious.
To control the Skarasen, the Zygons used Trilanic activators. Zygons frequently used molecular dispersal to get rid of corpses. Their ships tracked the life-signs of the Zygons and would bring the corpse back to the ship if a Zygon was killed.
In 102, the Zygons were among the races who joined the Alliance at Stonehenge. They came to Stonehenge and helped imprison the Eleventh Doctor in the Pandorica to "save" the Universe.
At some point before the 12th century, a Zygon ship was damaged and forced to land on Earth near Devil's Punchbowl in Scotland. They had a Skarasen with them which, though still an infant at that point, provided them with the lactic fluid they needed to survive.
The Zygons were originally at war with the Xaranti. During this war, both the Zygon homeworld, Zygor, and the Xaranti home planets were destroyed.
Refugees created a refugee fleet, and the ship on Earth was contacted.
A Zygon ship was trapped under where the Savoy Hotel was. During the grand opening in 1890, Zygons replaced half the staff, but the Eleventh Doctor, Amy Pond and Rory Williams stopped them.
In the late 20th century, the Zygons of Devil's Punchbowl decided to take over Earth and physically adapt it to an environment more suited to their species. UNIT and the Fourth Doctor stopped them, freeing the Skarasen.
The status of the Zygon invasion fleet still headed to Earth remained unresolved, though by implication, it would take some time to arrive.- Tardis Data Core
