- flashback:
- just had a thought about where you could put the Dale Erebor flashback. While they are singing the Misty Mountain song, Thorin could start singing and it fades to Dale and Erebor and the destruction of Smaug, while the dwarves are actually singing over the action, and then it fades back to Bagend with Bilbo listening to the song.

I personally would have cut the Azog battle of Azkaban scenes as it makes Thorin out to be the magestic hero a bit too much- Mrs Figg
I have hummed and hawed over that- in the end I kept it not for Thorin's character- but as a reason these dwarves follow him.

Good idea, such a good idea in fact that Ive sadly already tried that - it doesnt work for two reasons- there isnt enough song and the main purpose of that scene is to evoke and awaken the Took in Bilbo- no matter how I tried there isnt enough time to show the dragon stuff and still get in seeing Bilbo listening to the song.
Im amazed its still up- wasnt expecting that.

- what about this, you get to the bit where Thorin stands brooding on the Cliff, and you cut the bit where Kili gets growled at for giggling at orcs and the Balin stuff where he explains about Azkaban, and you just get Thorin brooding about Schmaug instead of Azog, so you get Thorin stomping off saying ''you know nothing Jon Snow'', he goes to brood, you fade to Schmaug doin his thang in Dale and Erebor, you use Balins voiceover from the intro, you end on that shot of Thorin in Erebor in closeup when he is in the shadows looking at his mad granddad fiddle with jools, fade out to Thorin still brooding on Cliff. You can use a bit of Misty Mountain type music to get the general atmosphere and or Balins voiceover from the opening intro of the film in Erebor where he is explaining about the coming of the dragon, e voilà flashback with no fooking Azog, and instead you have Balin explaining to Bilbo and Kili and Fili all about the Desolation of Schmaug it also means you can make it as long as the original scenes of Dale and Erebor, you could also add the bit where Balin says, ''thats why I follow him'' thing

Thats a nice idea Mrs Figg- and I may well give it a go when I get the extneded- but I dont think it will work at the moment as what Im working from only has stereo sound so I cant isolate Balins voice from all the other sound fx.
Sound is one of the trickest bits about editing all ready edited footage.
Then have a go and prove me wrong because I spent about 6 hours finding out I couldnt make it work!
