got a midget computer the size of a postcard and it wont let me see Pettys edits, cant download.

Oh!, Im not PC minded ! I have to get my friend to help me when I get stuck ! My laptop is 10yrs old & is hanging together with brown packing tape to keep the screen on ! It f**ks up every bloody time I use Youtube ! Im sure someone can help you ??

Same here. Still trying to figure how to watch lotr's. Downloaded it but can't find it.

Tonight I successfully redownloaded TH and had Winrar save it to Desktop as it unpacked it.

Then I watched it straight through. It's better than I could have imagined! The pacing and continuity problems in the earlier edit are now so smooth as to be almost unnoticeable.

The travel narrative now flows so smoothly that it was often hard to remember exactly where PJ's deviations from the story had once fit.

(It helps that I haven't seen the PJ version since it first came out so the deviant parts are no longer fresh in my mind. That's a good thing!)

I thought the Saruman cameo was entirely appropriate, and even goblin town didn't seem really out of place. Though i still cringed at every word of the Goblin King, there were far fewer of them. Much easier to handle.

And of course I'm still baffled that a whole company of dwarves who had fought and lost comrades in the Goblin Wars would lay down their arms and surrender to be eaten by three slow moronic trolls. Not your fault though. Not much you could do and still keep continuity. Hopefully the extended release will give you more to work with.

But all around its a very watchable movie by any standards, and quite close to the book. Nice job!

Thanks David. Glad you enjoyed it. And it is odd that once the worst deviations and nearly half the film are removed it is probably PJ's most faithul adaptation of Tolkien.

Did you ever get time for the rest of the LotR's edit?

Yeah, it seems to show that they started with a script that was quite faithful to the book, before they added all the whiz-bang, cliff dangling and bunnies. You've got to give them credit for that! I just hope it carries over to DoS. {{{by the way, could I suggest an out-take reel if Taurel turns out to be hot? }}}

I haven't gotten a machine that's new enough to run the format you used for LotR yet. As nice as the high resolution images are, I kinda wish you'd done the final edit in a smaller format first for those of us who are internet challenged.

Its to do with how much memory your computer has- more ram the better.
If you are short of ram the playback will be jumpy or stop start.

David I may convert the files into a non HD format.

I have just set up an account with a different storage site (that doesnt have the upload speed problems I hope) so I may try uploading book 1 in lower quality to there.
Keep an eye out for updates as in theory I think I can post a direct link to it here.

yeah the smaller the better. my computer seemed to be able to download part 4 ok but not the first 3, and then it wouldnt open anything, cos the first 3 werent there, I think.

Working on it. But TH Im afraid Mrs Figg is already a non HD file, I cant shrink it any smaller without it looking terrible, and I mean terrible.
I tried various ways of converting it just to make the smallest file I could to upload- and that was good as it got without losing to much picture quality. And it wasnt a great source to begin with, sub dvd quality.

so was wondering, when the official dvd comes out in March will you be editing that?, you know if the actual quality is better than the hollywood academy video thingie you used now? I imagine the official blue ray whatsit will be stonking quality?

The LotR's edit are from the EE blue rays so Ill do the same with TH.

In other news however I am going to upload a lower quality, but hopefully much smaller version of TH to my new drive.

And I am experimenting with putting a 6 minute version of Riddles in the Dark into Shadow of the Past in FotR- just a test but I will upload it too in lower quality just to get opinions on it.

Cool! I think a lot more people will be able to view a lower res version.

Having said that, I'm still working on a way to watch the HD LotR edit on the 32" screen. It's still the best way, if it werent for all the technical challenges.

A new one entirely. I'm trying a site called Adrive - Ive got an account set up and did a quick test upload- all looked good and it was so much faster than skydrive- probably wont be much if any difference on downloading speed, but not having an upload speed limit makes things much easier for me.
