I think it's no greater than the risk of losing the performance to heavy prosthetic makeup, maybe less. They both require care to make it believable.

Thats a fair point David.

Im just cautious about over use of cgi- I think it can lose a sense of reality and wander into cartoon territory if the director is not careful. (This fear was not helped in the last production vid where they are working on a scene on the montor where the dwarfs go down what looks like a tunnel helterskelter- it looked like a cartoon)

Who got to see the film, cos on the Aussie news it said no reviews were allowed till it gets released in the USA. They had to sign an agreement. Was it just film critics, jurno's and such like. No normal people (fans) ?

I'm not sure who had to sign the agreements. The Australian release date is almost two weeks later than the US/UK date (December 26 instead of December 14) so that might be why they said no reviews until it's out in the US.

Because the old Bilbo scenes in TH are meant to take place around the start of his 111 birthday party- the 'no admittance' sign is on the gate ect- so he should look like he did in the opening of FotR.

Does partly explain why the orcs look so different to the orcs of the LotR's films.

The names are wrong,we know that, people are wrong, we know that to,the story isnt right, theres no princess, but I like the way Mirkwood was verbally described, & the overall flavour is Simple! Thats how I imagine The Hobbit to be, reasonably simple. If PJ had stuck to this sort of recipe,("simple") & not added stupid stuff, like Tauriel, bird shit wizards, axe in head Dwarves, Playboy center fold Dwarves, over sized bunnies, etc, it might be the film Id enjoy & wanna see again !?

I've heard that JRRT saw this, and was not pleased. For simple and quite a bit closer to the original story, the Hanna Barbera cartoon of TH is not bad, especially compared to the 1966 version. All I've tried to expect of PJ's Hobbit is that it be better than these previous two, which I think is setting the bar quite low. Just adding the dwarf songs and Beorn back may be enough to satisfy me, though I'm hoping for a lot more.

As for the stupid additions, I am 100% confident that Petty can edit 90% of that out in an artful way that leaves the story intact.
