If PJ is sticking to the book's chronology, then the Necromancer fits best when Gandalf leaves as the company is entering Mirkwood, which would be central to the second movie. And if they're going that route it makes sense to introduce the role of the White Council while the company is in Rivendell in the first movie for continuity.
Actually it will be good to have cuts to the White Council pounding on Dol Goldur while the dwarves are in Mirkwood, otherwise the forest journey will be rather claustrophobic.

Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
That's true. If they were literal to the book, the screen would be pitch black with all the theater safety lights off as well, so that the audience can't see anything except a few glowing eyes and hear dwarves stumbling and cursing. That could get old very quickly.

And "Radagast the Brown" comes just about where you would expect Tom Bombadil if this were FotR......

Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
I have to say the soundtrack listing is the single most (only?) positive news in a very, very long time.
I am particularly pleased to see there is a track entitled, 'Dreaming of Bag End'- as Bilbo does spend quite a bit of time wishing he was home again.

I think the Hill of Sorcery will be Dol Guldur. I seem to remember that the figwit Lindir will be singing a song in Rivendell? i wonder if its the moon runes track?

Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
I'm shocked to see you so positive, Petty! I'm glad you're encouraged though.
Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
You make a good point about Dol Guldur, Mrs Figg. Dol Guldur actually translated to "Hill of Sorcery", which I forgot until you brought this up. It seems a safe bet that we'll get a glimpse of the stronghold and perhaps even of the Necromancer himself in the first film.
I know that Lindir in LOTR the book (who may or may not have anything to do with the new Figwit) listens to Bilbo's song but I don't recall hearing anything about his namesake singing in The Hobbit. That would definitely make sense since he's played by Bret McKenzie, though. He has a lot of musical experience already with Flight of the Conchords and the soundtrack to The Muppets.

i almost bet he'll sing. Someone said Lindir means something with music and they do arrive during midsummer festivity
Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
There are singing Elves in The Hobbit, and Bret would certainly be an obvious choice to sing in the films. Now I'm actually really excited about this possibility.

I've been since the moment I learned he was going to be in it

I don't recall Tolkien explaining the name Lindir in any text published to date, but it could mean 'song-man' (song or chant) or 'singer (masculine)', with a feminine counterpart in Lindis.
Tolkien's Lindar are the Singers, or we also have Lindórinand 'Vale of the Land of the Singers'. Lindir may end in -(ndir) like Gandalf's Mithrandir 'Grey wander-man, Grey Pilgrim'

Cant say I am overwhelmed by the Radagast track. But maybe its better to see it in context. I like the LOTR flavour with the singing though.

Well, keep in mind, he's being attacked by spiders during this, so that would explain the weird creepy aspects.

Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
Listened to the soundtrack clip now that I'm back home. It was pretty good, quality Shore stuff, though definitely not my favorite. I agree with Mrs Figg about wanting to see how it works in context. That is after all the point of a soundtrack, though it's always nice when you can listen to one on its own.
Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
yes its definately Shore music, its in the dna of the track, and I noticed a more 'modern' sounding drum element joined with the classic Shore female singing. It was odd to say the least, but I dont know anything about music so I may be talking rubbish, as per.

I might add that (and even though I'm no expert in the linguistic field) Lindir might also mean 'lake-man' I think, if we consider that we might have a Grey-elven lîn 'lake, pool, mere' and the name Linaewen.
I would still guess a song or chant though.

Re: Countdown to Release [2] SPOILER THREAD
he was with elrond in one of the alternative endings for the trailer, so not one of them lake-elves.

"Now this is a story all about how
My life got flipped inside down
And I'd like to take a minute just sit right there
and I'll tell you the story of how I had sex with a bear"
Then you could have a funny awkward morning after scene lol
