Maybe its your eyes need adjusting Norc! And its supposed to be dark- just not so dark its impossible to see anything- which I can assure they are not having watched them quite a few times- stills dont do it justice however. (It also helps explain why the orcs dont notice they are not orcs- given in Pjs their little pink faces are quite obvious under the helmets!)

Only if you didnt already shell out for the cinema, dvd's, special edition dvd's, blue ray, special edition blue rays, superdooper edition blue rays, posters, mugs hats, false Gandalf beard and a pipe!
Besides as has been pointed out before, if you download it you are not breaking any laws- I am for uploading it.
That and only about half a dozen to 10 folks have downloaded and watched them tops- I doubt I am making a huge dent in their profit margins!

I personally liked those scenes with Frodo and Sam in Mordor, it showed their extreme fragility among all that brutality. It never seemed out of place, it just accentuated their desperate plight.

Re: More Hobbit pictures [2] SPOILER THREAD
Interview with Boyens-
Some stuff that sounds like good news- mainly some that sounds very worrying-
"once Guillermo made the decision that he couldn't do it and Pete made the decision that he would step up and do it, we had to start again. You need to write for the director, or in this instance, a vision that the director has."
"Smaug, in the book, dies a good way before the story ends. "What's that all about? You don't want to be restarting the story. The death of the dragon has to be part of a bigger whole," Boyens says.
"There are certain things that are sacrosanct and those dwarfs are one of them. And in the end it was a relatively easy solve. It's in the storytelling. I sort of had this eureka moment one day when I realised that it's not about it being too many dwarfs but about there being too few. Once you shape the story and you understand that there's only 13 of them and they are going to try to take back a mountain from a dragon you're off."
Boyens was also conscious of the fact the book has no female characters other than as background players.
But the fighting elf Tauriel, played by Canadian actor Evangeline Lilly, is from the imagination of Boyens, Jackson and Walsh. "This is a decision where you move away from being a Tolkien fan and you have to be a fan of film.
"It was a fairly easy decision as well because it just gets a little much – the weight of this masculine energy. It is pretty unrelenting....We could have introduced a female human character. But we decided on an elf. There was a little story thread in Lord of the Rings that we wanted to pick up on and develop and it involved a very feminine energy, so we decided to use it and the character of Tauriel came into being."
Anyone got any iea what she means by 'There was a little story thread in Lord of the Rings that we wanted to pick up on'?

Re: More Hobbit pictures [2] SPOILER THREAD
Ok Petty, now I'm crabbit again. Tbh I don't really care much about the whole Tauriel thing - I can close my eyes in that bit and ignore it. But they had better not change anything about Smaug's death!!! That would piss me off so much I would throw popcorn and boo loudly throughout the scene!
I do like the rethinking of the 13 dwarves as being too few though - it was a bit of an impossible pipe-dream quest! If it hadn't been for the burglar aspect they would have failed miserably, both against Smaug and in dealing with the Elves and Lakemen. (Yay for Bilbo!)

Re: More Hobbit pictures [2] SPOILER THREAD
Glad I could help restore your crabbit Meiko!
How much the Tauriel thing will bother me comes down to three things- how clumsily its insterted/or not, how much screen time it gets, and how much it effects or alters the original tale- I'll not be happy for example if she instead of Bilbo rescues the dwarves (either in Mirkwood against the spiders or from the ElevenKings Halls-as either would seriously harm the development of Bilbo- you remeber him Boyens? The Hobbit of the title? ).
The Smaug thing is really worrying- the fact she even asks "What's that all about?"- its how the story goes you daft bint!! Talk about insulting Tolkien (off whose work they are making a fortune and their reputation )
She might as well have come out and said "Tolkien cant write a plot or structure a story, Im a much better writer so I am doing it better."
I now fully expect my original hunch from long ago that Smaug will be intimitly tied to the Necro and the battle of Dol Guldur too.
For a while I thought I might dislike large parts of these films-now I feel I am going to hate them. With every new thing Boyens says my crabbit only increases.

Re: More Hobbit pictures [2] SPOILER THREAD
Agree completely re Tauriel. Frankly she can take up time (there sure as hell will be plenty of it!) but she must NOT take Bilbo's development away from him. NEVER EVER.
(((Oh, and I had a crush on Fili and Kili when I was 6. They were bearded in my head though. Was distraught when they died - I'd lost my little dwarf husbands! Then I moved onto crushing on Pippin when I was 7. I switched swooning over real life people when I was a teen (all top jockeys). Now, my partner is 5'0". Guess my tastes haven't changed...)))
P.S. Carly are you THE Carly Castle of Twitter (who doesn't seem to have an active account anymore)? I recognise the name and unique brand of humour!
P.P.S. I associate that emoticon entirely with Norc. Every time I see it, no matter the forum, I think the thread has been norced.

I had a thing for Anne from the famous five when I was 7- I think I just liked the idea of a girl who actively wanted to cook and clean for me all the time- with hindsight that probably explains a lot.
This months SFX mag has a Hobbit special in it-
I assume this shot is from the cave in the mountains- and it looks like the Goblin attack will not be as sudden as it is in the book if Bilbo is up and about loooking supscious about something.

Re: More Hobbit pictures [2] SPOILER THREAD
A three-film structure gives us room to deal with some of the trickier elements in the story. The dragon dies about two thirds of the way through the book! The ‘story’ is basically over: they’ve got to the mountain, they’ve got their gold… But Professor Tolkien chose for that not to be the case."- Boyen
'The ‘story’ is basically over: they’ve got to the mountain, they’ve got their gold…'
Thats not the story!! Do they even know what they are doing at all?

Ha, I also had a thing for Julian. Book crushes can never spit in your eye and make you feel worthless, they're the best sort!
P.S. Argh I know! That bit made me very crabbit There's soooo much more to the Hobbit!! If they don't think so then how is a multifilm approach at all justified?

Yeah...
Boyens really shouldn't speak about these things. I'm starting to notice a trend.
I'm almost willing to accept what they're doing and she says things like how her version is somehow better. The trilogy has gone to her head. She's practically outright insulting Tolkien.
Is she trying to make me mad? Oh, whatever.

Re: More Hobbit pictures [2] SPOILER THREAD
The trend Im noticing is that she doesnt get Tolkiens work at all, or even understand it.
I have always maintained this of course based on my belief of how they completely screwed up the themes in Lotr's but these statements pretty much proves it for me. She is clueless about Tolkien.
"The dragon dies about two thirds of the way through the book! The ‘story’ is basically over they’ve got to the mountain, they’ve got their gold… But Professor Tolkien chose for that not to be the case."- Boyen
Thats because Tolkien knew what the hell he was doing and what the story was actually about- and its not about Smaug being killed or the dwarves getting their gold back!!!!!
Tolkien expert? I think she was just the only person out the three who had read the book more recently than 1979.
(Reason for editing : To agree with Petty)- Meiko
I often feel more people should do this!

"What's that all about?" Ahahahaha WTF Boyens. Just when I was starting to feel more optimistic about the films.
Not that this is really anything new (hell, they used the exact same justification to get rid of the Scouring of the Shire) but I can't stand listening to Philippa Boyens in interviews or the documentaries.

I say, as the viewing, paying, public,we should BURN THE WITCH ! like they did in the 15th-17th centuries. Those poor sods were burnt for far less at that time ! This bitch is a heretic. Im the Angel of Death Boyens! So says my name- Azriel !, She is a disease that spreads, a vermin that chews into the souls of simple men. A pustule that needs lancing, a maggot under the skin, a vile ahborrence, that needs exorcising, a worm that should be dug out & cast onto the fire !

Re: More Hobbit pictures [2] SPOILER THREAD
I'm still hoping that means that Smaug will die at the climax of the 2nd movie, and the 3rd movie will be a story of the greed of Dwarves, Elves and Men, climaxing with the battle of 5 armies.
For me, "Inside Information" is the central chapter. In a way it's Bilbo's finest moment: a duel of wits with a dragon. That leads directly to the death of Smaug, which makes a perfect climax to a second movie. But then the whole Arkenstone/ Battle of 5 Armies would need to be shoehorned in at the end. It would pose some of the same problems as the Scouring of the Shire to LotR, and might have ended up badly mutilated to fit in the last 15 minutes, or cut entirely.
So I'm guessing and hoping that all this talk of the appendices means that rather than cutting the battle (hard to imagine PJ doing that) they've fleshed out the Dwarf/Elf/Man backstory, making the 3rd movie almost a stand-alone epic, including Bilbo but not centered on him as in the first two.

Re: More Hobbit pictures [2] SPOILER THREAD
My impression of the quote is that it means Smaug will survive longer. The end of the second movie is still only two-thirds of the way through the movie, which is what Boyens is complaining about. I get the sense that they've made Smaug directly involved in the Battle of the Five Armies somehow, though I hope that's not the case.
Re: More Hobbit pictures [2] SPOILER THREAD
Smaug could die as climax of movie two, then three could flashback back to where Gandalf leaves them at Mirkwood, telling his adventures from there, including the White Council and Dol Guldur and with a touching scene where Galadriel runs her fingers through his hair --- then when Sauron flees, a moth flies into Gandalf's beard and whispers, "The dragon is dead, trouble's a'brewin'" and so Gandalf hightails it back in the direction of Lake Town where Bard and the Elves are preparing to go up to the Lonely Mountain. (We only know Gandalf has got back when he reveals himself during a "A Thief in the NIght" bit, mind! ) Then we can flash back to the dwarves and Bilbo as they await the seige, having been told by Roac what had happened with Smaug and them busy building a wall at the Front Gate. Perfik!

Re: More Hobbit pictures [2] SPOILER THREAD
and we know Cumberbath is voicing Smaug....AND the Necromancer in the second Hobbit film...Now how could this be...? well a unconfirmed source says....
Yes, the Necromancer will be voiced by Lees in the first and second film. He will not have a physical body, and will be portrayed as a uber-wraith. At the end of the second film, the Necromancer will be chased out by the White Council and his spirit will travel towards Erebor with the White council in pursuit.
Meanwhile all the events unfold at Lake Town and Smaug is killed by Bard, falling into the lake. The dwarves, men, and elves move on to their fight over the treasure and eventually the beginning of the battle of 5 armies. In the middle of the battle, the Necromancer’s spirit arrives and reanimates the body of Smaug. Necromancers after all...raise the dead. Smaug/Necromancer will then join the battle and will be voiced by Cumberbatch, because at this point the Necromancer and Smaug are one being. With the arrival of the eagles enabling combat with the dragon in mid-air, causing the Necromancer/Smaug to flee, flying to Mordor where the Nazgul have fled as well. The Necromancer will shed the "Smaug body" by breathing fire onto the top of his tower thus taking the shape of a giant fire ball eye.
Thoughts???
