Re: Doctor Who [3]
I dunno what to say about them yet. I liked them, yes. I just don't have any interesting point of views at the moment. Haven't prossesed it all yet.
Re: Doctor Who [3]
I love norwegian wikipedia. said Billie Piper was married to Chris Evans (correctly enough) but they linked it to the wrong Chris Evans, the captain Americur Evans.. I was like whaaat??? and then I was like LOOOL! and then I was like no reason to be jelous then..
Re: Doctor Who [3]
Watched angels twice, last night and tonight with Squach. Bawled like a baby both times.
Only problem I have now is how I manage until christmas!
- Spoiler:
- Have to say I loved the episode. Thought the film noir vibe was fun and really fit with the inevitablitly of the send off. A fab choice considering this is who and everyone was always going to know in advance this was it for the ponds.
Loved the reading of the book. The Melody reference hit me straight away as did the skinny guy line, but it was filmed so well it was still a surprise to find Rory and River in 1938 (although I must admit my response to Rory's "you're melody" would have been a snarky "well you named me!")
Knowing it was the end, but not knowing exactly how added to the slow growing dread throughout, first thought was Rory wasn't going to escape winter quay or Amy would do something daft to save him. (Have to say I agree about the power Karen gave to the "I won't let them!" chills)
The scene on the roof top was incredible, from the very moment of Rorys "theres a way out!" it was heartwrenching, hand over mouth in disbelief time.
After watching tonight Rachael said she still thought Roses departure was worse, but I had to disagree. Possibly it is down to the fact that she was far more invested in Rose, whereas I have adored the Ponds from moment one.
For me the big theme that made this so sad was that of Amy and Rorys love, it has played a key role throughout their run, particularly in the current series. From the nano cloud argument about who loved who more, it has run bubbling along under the surface to rise to the top in full force here.
The doctor hates endings, but even more so than that, the endings of his companions are often forced through death, separation to another universe/ can't remember or will die. Alternatively it is through his choice to leave them behind - obliquly referenced through Rivers "never let him see you grow old". This adds into the other undercurrent of the series - that the time of Rory and Amy travelling with the doc is running out, from the glasses this episode, the discussion of real life v doctor life and amys concern that her friends might notice she is aging faster than them.
In fact the heart breaking thing for the doctor this time is that Amy willing goes, chooses Rory "where I should be?" He has over the course of Rorys deaths pulled Amy away from him several times, this time she wouldn't let him.
While I will miss the ponds terribly this felt right and true to the characters. The doctor has always been Amys friend, not the love of her life, Moffat stayed true to this.
I have to say that I loved the afterword, a proper goodbye to Amelia Pond leaving the feeling that we will not have them turning up left right and centre and also the fact that Amy finally became Amy Williams with this choice.
Agree there is something going on with the titles - whats with the funny green this time? And yes the more I think about it the more I think there is still something hinky in the timeline "I'm running to you, to you and Rory before..." I forget the rest of the line, but if he is travelling backwards in their timeline........ there aren't words. (Wouldn't put it past Moffat either as River and the library has had such a long lasting effect.)
Only problem I have now is how I manage until christmas!

Re: Doctor Who [3]
- Spoiler:
- I think you have nailed the themes brought out this series Kafria better than I did.
Amy was always going to make her own choice in the end- if it had been forced on her like Rose or Donna it would have been a bertrayal not just of her character but of the beautiful love story spanning space and time that is Amy and Rory.
And not sure if you read my post a page or so back about the 'other' in Gallifryean legend and the possibilty the Doctor is more than a Time-Lord, but it did cross my mind when River described him as an 'ageless God who insists on hiding behind the face of a twelve year old.'

Re: Doctor Who [3]
The answers contains huge spoilers for series 6 inparticular)
- Spoiler:
- If you mean could River be the next version of the Doctor then no.
We have seen her birth to Amy and Rory- and she gets her timelord thing from being conceived in the Time Vortex whilst the Tardis was in flight on th enight of their wedding (making her also a part daughter of the Tardis), and then having nasty scientists muck about with her DNA whilst still in Amy's womb and after she was born.
And we know (unless Moffat somehow returns to it before the end) how River dies- as we have seen that too.
So she couldn't be the Doctor.

Re: Doctor Who [3]
- Spoiler:
- Anything is possible in Dr Who, Petty. What about an Alternative Universe. The current Doctor gets incinerated and his wee soul skips through a worm hole into the AU (where male is female and female is male) just before it closes. Done! I wonder when they start shooting?
{{{I may even start watching! And more Cibermen and straight forward adventures, and less of these involved clever storylines that no one likes - not even you - even if you pretend you do... And bring back gadgets! }}}

Re: Doctor Who [3]
Bit of fine Murray Gold music from the beautiful rooftop scene between Amy and Rory in Angels- its just lifted from the episode with the vocal track dumped but still brings a tear back to my eye just hearing it again.

Re: Doctor Who [3]
All I have to say about that episode; seriously Moffat? ANOTHER rooftop? I think that man is trying to be too clever too often. I'm actually starting to miss RTD a bit (something I never thought I would miss!) And all the episodes feel rushed. he's not too good at managing time, kind if like PJ

yeah! rooftops again!!! REICHENFEELS!
Re: Doctor Who [3]
Tin I wouldnt entirely disagreee about the rushed aspect - but then I have been saying that for years- compared to classic Who its been rushed since it came back.
This series in particular, with its ambitous aim to make 'a blockbuster film in 45 minutes' has had to fight the clock more than most.
However the Angels episode is one of the ones, particluarly this series so far, that I didnt think was rushed at all- it felt the perfect length to me.
I dont mind the rooftop being something that cropped up in Sherlock either- they are more than different enough- in some ways the oppopisite of one another and more importantly it makes narrative and thematic sense within the story and the series wider themes.
The overnights figures for the Angels take Manhattan are in- a very healthy 5.9 million with an AI rating of 88-putting it into the 'excellent' category (highest of the day).

We've watched through Journey's end (I so love Jack), Waters of Mars and the Next Doctor both which I hadn't seen before.
Wilfred's "that's what they called it the last time" still kills me. RTD's facination of explosions and stuff behind the Doctor... yuck...

Amarie- Waters of Mars is a favourite of mine- the two Doctors one- I like the two doctors thing and the interaction- but the plot - the victorian children and the god-awful Cyberking stomping about Victorian London- thank goodness the Cracks in TIme ate that one from history- nice one Moff!
