As always with a Moffat script there was some memorable dialogue to enjoy, heres some of my favourites.
And thats just my favourite bits from the opening fifteen minutes! Moffat episodes really do require a second watch if only to get the time to appreciate the dialogue.

- Darla: The Prime Minister will speak with you now.
The Doctor: Do you remember who you were before they emptied you out and turned you into their puppet?
Darla: My memories are only reactivated if they are required to facilitate deep cover or disguise.
The Doctor: You had a daughter.
Darla: I know. I've read my file.
The Doctor: According to legend you have a dumping ground. A planet where you lock up all the Daleks that go wrong. The battle-scarred, the insane, the ones even you can't control. Which never made any sense to me.
Prime Minister: Why not?
The Doctor: Because you'd just kill them.
Prime Minister: It is offensive to us to extinguish such divine hatred.
The Doctor: Offensive?
Prime Minister: Does it surprise you to know that Daleks have a concept of beauty?
The Doctor: I thought you'd run out of ways to make me sick. But hello again. You think hatred is beautiful?
Prime Minister: Perhaps that is why we have never been able to kill you.
The Doctor: How many Daleks are down there?
Darla: A count has not been made. Millions certainly.
The Doctor: All still alive?
Darla: It has to be assumed. The Asylum is fully-automated. Supervision is not required.
Amy: Armed?
Darla: The Daleks are always armed.
Rory: What color? {they look at him} Sorry, there weren't any good questions left.
Darla: The signal is being received from the very heart of the Asylum. {a song from Bizet’s Carmen is heard}
Prime Minister: What is the noise! Explain! Explain!
The Doctor: It's me.
Rory: Sorry, what?
The Doctor: It's me, playing the triangle.... Okay, I got buried in the mix.
The Doctor: What have you been doing on your own against the Daleks for a year?
Oswin: Making soufflés?
The Doctor: Soufflés. Against the Daleks.
Dalek: The predator of the Daleks will be deployed.
The Doctor: You don't have a predator and even if you did, why would they turn off a force field for you?
Prime Minister: Because you will have no other means of escape.
Darla: May I clarify? The Predator is the Dalek's word for you.
The Doctor: Me? Me!
Darla: The gravity beam will convey you close to the source of the transmission. You must find a way to deactivate the force field from there.
The Doctor: You're going to fire me at a planet? That's your plan? I get fired at a planet and expected to fix it?
Rory: In fairness that is slightly your M.O.
The Doctor: Don't be fair to the Daleks when they're firing me at a planet!
The Doctor: What do you want with them?
Dalek: It is known the Doctor requires companions.
Rory: Oh, brilliant. Good-o!

I've been kinda busy adjusting back to Uni life after my break from that and I've also been trying to keep up my own writing as best as I can. I'll make an effort to get back into Who when I have the time and enthusiasm but no promises on when that is. I may watch just Asylum of the Daleks and leave the earlier stuff for a longer marathon session.
It can't be tonight though because the first game of the NFL season is on and my Cowboys are playing their divisional rivals the NY Giants.

You could certainly watch Asylum without much preknowledge- you already know enough- who Amy and Rory are and that the Daleks are the Doctors oldest and deadliest enemies and one of the few things he truely does hate and despise.
And knowing the commercial nature of US tv you could probably watch a 45 minute Who as the halftime entertainment and still not miss any game.

That's only in the Super Bowl when they have to make room in the halftime show for an overrated and/or over-the-hill performer to give an abridged concert in the middle of the field.

'The viewing figure for last Saturday's premiere of Asylum of the Daleks on BBC America has been released, indicating that over 1.5 million tuned in to watch the Doctor's latest adventure with his arch-enemy - giving the episode the highest audience for Doctor Who on the channel so far!

I might start from season 1 and go through the whole lot again. you mentioned there was a Tennant special that you didnt rate very highly, not End of Time, another one, maybe I can watch that if I find out its name.

No Donna in either Im afraid- temporary rubbish companions for the ride (actually the Next Doctor characters are ok in that regard its the plot, the idea and the execution I didnt like).
I cant see there ever being a spin off- I dont think either actor would go back to the roles and you cant have two doctor who shows on at once with rival versions- thats a recipe for disaster.
You have to let go of Tennant and Rose Mrs Figg- that is the very nature of Who.

Little Amy comes back into the story of Amy Pond quite a few times throughout series 5 and 6 and
You can hop around previous NuWho series bar a few key episodes without it affecting much- 5 and 6 are more like some classic Who series where the order is crucial.
