edit add- Lore Check Please! 400 years old- I thought Smaug was born in the 1st Age like all other dragons and was by the time of TH the last of the great dragons?
More worryingly is 400 years not about the amount of time Dol Guldur has been standing? If so is PJ somehow linking the two? Is Smaug Saurons pet dragon?

anyways, I think I've read somewhere that some of gandalfs plan was to kill smaug so that Sauron wouldn't have him as an allay in the future. anyways, that doesn not translate as "pet-dragon". And I believe Cumberbutt is just exagerating.

Also, I like that they say that Gollum has only one scene. Hopefully they're right and his role hasn't been expanded beyond recognition.

Hopefully that means no Gollum leaving his cave to pursue Bilbo- I had a nightmare thought they might somehow have him doing that before Bilbo returns home and somehow end up in Moria ready for Fellowship- unlikely I know but I can no longer tell with these films what would constitute unlikely.

I had the same thought. It's possible that the reporter is just making an assumption based on Gollum's single scene in the book, but I choose to hope (for now).

A staffer from TORn wrote an interesting article for Movies.com and while it ends with fairly typical PJ praise it raises a few of the same concerns that people here seem to have, which surprised me a bit given the author. Not even the bastions of PJ apologetics are safe from doubts about the decision to make The Hobbit a trilogy.

Cynics and conspiracy theorists may cry otherwise, but the simple explanation is the right one. Jackson isn’t “very good at making short movies.” The danger here isn’t expansion for non-creative reasons -- the danger is too much expansion for the right reason.

Critics would point to King Kong as an example of Jackson pushing too long of a product to the marketplace without the studio having the weight to tell a director to trim his film. This is the danger. Instead of two lean films packed with forward-moving plot, we will be handed three films with sections or subplots that don’t matter and detract rather than add to the films. Even in the Oscar-sweeping Return of the King, the multiple endings of the film have earned Jackson some ribbing. Could The Hobbit metaphorically resemble always-hungry Bombur more than Thorin?

I was on there recently- I was immediately aggressively attacked and then the posts were deleted and I got a pm from one of their mods.
Apparently my use of the line "the sun doesnt shine out of PJ's backside" was too much for them.

"I deleted your post about the sun shining out of PJ's back side. There was no call for that in that thread."

How ridiculous! There is always a call for saying that!

And more incredibly, after a few posts from folks just trying to bully me, I made a comment that it was 'no wonder I have bumped into so many folk on other sites who felt they had been aggressively closed down here' and got told by pm:
"or advertise your own site (however subtly). That's getting into spamming territory which is against out ToS."

I'll say its subtle, people would have to be psychic to know which sites from that!

It took me a while but I learned some time ago that TORn is more trouble than you're worth. I made the choice to keep my distance and I'm not sure why you keep going back, to be honest. It's just frustrating and you can have much better conversations without always looking over your shoulder for over-eager mods on any number of other sites (ooh, how spammish of me! :O).
