from LOTR or the Hobbit? (from the Lord of the Rings' official facebook page)
Bilbo & Frodo's Birthday Celebration. The Hobbits leave Hobbiton the following day.
Re: Countdown to Release | SPOILER THREAD
I'm pretty sure that's not how the timeline went even in the movie version. Gorgeous picture though!
Re: Countdown to Release | SPOILER THREAD
We're going to have older!Bilbo and Frodo in a framing device for The Hobbit. If I'm remembering the opening shots of the first trailer correctly, then it implied that the films were going to begin around the time of Bilbo's going-away birthday party at the beginning of FOTR. So it might be from both.

*shrug* For what it's worth I've never interpreted that quote to refer to the time of The Hobbit. Bilbo had clearly aged between the Prologue to FOTR and the main film.

I don't recall if the "No admittance except on party business" sign was in the trailer, but it clearly set up the framing device. Hopefully that clarifies exactly what I meant.

She's giving me a hard time about having made lots of posts about the trailer.

yeah, I think PJ overlooked something. (like the british being human series, because of budget they made the vampires desappear in normal mirrors and cameras, but not in reflecting windows, cars etc.)
Re: Countdown to Release | SPOILER THREAD
the sign "no admia, gnk bla bla" was in one of the production videos and I believe I saw it in the trailer.

Re: Countdown to Release | SPOILER THREAD
I just heard about the third film this morning,(I'm on vacation and previously had no internet access) and I screamed "NOOOOOO!!!!!! DAMNIT PJ!!!" because I didn't think it would be about the Hobbit at all. BUT if he's just going to extend the movies, I'm a bit more ok with that. I'm just wondering how much he can drag the story out. There's a reason the Hobbit is one book, not three. I feel like the more the story is broken up and watered down, the less entertaining PJ is making it. I also fear now that Tauriel is going to make more appearances , but it also means Legolas might too
My biggest concern is that I'm going to have to wait two years to see the climax of the story. Part one doesn't really have a climax (sure, it could be Bilbo finding the ring, or getting captured in Mirkwood, but that's all rising action). How is PJ going to make the first two films begin and end like they're their own story and not just seem like fillers? The audience is going to be left wanting, not satisfied with what they've been given. I hope you've taken THAT into account PJ

Re: Countdown to Release | SPOILER THREAD
No problems Tin- Pj will just do what he did for the atrificial end to the Frodo/Sam story in TT- make something up that makes no narrative sense but includes an inexplicable appeareence by a big baddie. Add in a rousing speech about hope or something vaguely Tolkien 'sounding', get Shore to cover it all with an emotional rousing orchestral speech and hope to Eru no one notices its a load of complete bollocks.
He got away with it last time, probably will again.

See, before I used to love the movies, but I'm just getting more and more crabbit about them the more I see them/think about them. I've spent too much time around you Petty, you've rubbed off on me Now I'm off to drink whatever is left of my Buckie and think of a way to un-crabbit myself

I know! I've had the rottenest of luck with computers; everytime you sent them to me, my computer would crash or it would be really slow or something! I haven't tried it on this computer yet though.... maybe I should give it another shot.

I've played that in a musical I've felt like that all summer.
Re: Countdown to Release | SPOILER THREAD
maybe the movies will be like a downtown abbey ep? no climax, yet lots of drama in a film length time? it'll be like sherlock, a season, with episodes. (it won't be as sherlock, but Sherlock and John are in it soooo)

Re: Countdown to Release | SPOILER THREAD
found on the Hobbit's facebook page (the book)
Riddles in the Dark
The most famous chapter of The Hobbit, and our introduction to Gollum, is surprisingly unknown in its original form. Only 17,000 copies of the first edition ever went on sale. Gollum is far more honourable in the original version than he later appears. He is still eager to eat Bilbo should he lose the riddle game – but abides fairly by the result. Tolkien wrote, ‘Bilbo need not have been frightened. For one thing Gollum had learned long ago was never to cheat at the riddle-game.’ Not only does Gollum willingly offer his magic ring as Bilbo’s prize for winning the bet, but begs his pardon and even offers him fresh fish to eat. Gollum then apologises for having lost the ring, and Bilbo demands to be shown the way out as an alternative prize.
Tolkien later revised Gollum into the vicious, unstable creature we know now to better emphasise the corrupting influence of the ring, so that its power and Gollum’s obsession could play such an important part in The Lord of the Rings. It is the second edition of The Hobbit, published in 1951, where Riddles in the Dark ends with Gollum’s famous cry of "Thief! Thief, Baggins! We hates it, we hates it, we hates it forever!"
