Not so sure about the dead searchlight of Morgul being turned into the big shooty pillar of flame into the sky thing, but I loved the sound effects for it- theres a sort of 'null-sound' moment thats superb.

Interesting Dale is all nice and clean and shiny, considering its a complete ruin in the book.
Presumably there is a flashback stuff there sizable enough to warrant building that huge set.

And Beorn must be blooming huge.

And I supsect that was indeed Tauriel.

Mmm not sure about this at all. So long as this brief and not a big action scene fine- but that giant looks like he is getting ready to throw something at the screen in true dull as ditchwater 3D film fashion.

Is the stone giant made of stone? I can't say that's how I ever imagined them looking.

I actually still haven't gotten around to watching the seventh vlog ever. I need to sit down and just get plow them.

Now that's going to be associated with the weird blue things in Avengers and Transformers for me. But yes, the Morgul light was actually well done.

There was a lights show at Minas Morgul when the Lord of the Nazgul and his host set forth in the book, too.

At that moment the rock quivered and trembled beneath them. The great rumbling noise, louder than ever before, rolled in the ground and echoed in the mountains. Then with searing suddenness there came a great red flash. Far beyond the eastern mountains it leapt into the sky and splashed the lowering clouds. In that valley of shadow and cold deathly light it seemed unbearably violent and fierce. Peaks of stone and ridges like notched knives sprang out into staring black against the uprushing flame in Gorgoroth. Then came a great crack of thunder.

And Minas Morgul answered. There was a flare of livid lightnings, forks of blue flame springing up from the tower and from the encircling hills into the sullen clouds. The earth groaned; and out of the city there came a cry. Mingled with harsh high voices as of birds of prey, and the shrill neighing of horses wild with rage and fear, there came a rending screech, shivering, rising swiftly to a piercing pitch beyond the range of hearing. The hobbits wheeled round towards it, and cast themselves down, holding their hands upon their ears.

Events are slightly condensed (in the book, the trio hard already started climbing after stopping Frodo from walking into Minas Morgul) but the departure of the Morgul host is pretty much exactly as described. It's also a fantastic melding of visual effects and sound design. I really see nothing to complain about here, I think it's a great scene both as cinema and as an adaptation.

It's cool to see them, though they're so minor that I can't say I would have missed them. I just hope that it doesn't become an excuse for a CGI action fest. I'll be happy with just a brief appearance since the goblins are already the main antagonists of the mountain sequences.

whoever she is I like her costume and hair style, its very fitting for Mirkwood

yes, the style is defo fitting. But to be very correct. Lego used one dagger (though it looks way cooler with two)

I always figured she would look the part- the costume dept on LotR's was top notch afterall. Its the content that bothers me. The way they are driving this ridiculous 'girl power' thing.
There are very few fighting woman in Tolkien. And there is a reason for this- put a strong woman up against a strong man and 9 times out of 10 you end up with a dead woman.
This making her the top fighter of the Guard ect is all horrible.
