That's a good point. Although I've heard good things about GRRM's Dunk and Egg prequel novellas. Though those sound more like Fantastic Beasts in that they occur decades before ASOIAF and have an almost entirely different cast of characters.
Yes, exactly. I think George even mentioned the lack of overlapping story in the case of the Dunk and Egg stories in the argument I refered to above. Though he did say somewhere that Walder Frey appears briefly as a horrible kid, and that he has the main character considering throwing him down a well.
JK Rowlings Star Wars comment makes some sense in this context as well, I guess.

Came across a book in this series the other day, and couldn't believe what I was seeing. Had to google it and it turns out it's almost a cut-and-paste copy of Harry Potter, the only difference being that Voldemort and Harry are female This is beyond silly. "Tanya Grotter" -

Also it's good to note that a Dutch court adjugded it not to be a parody (and therefore not exempt from copyright.)

The fantastic beast spin off has a release date:

Frankly it's later than I'd thought it would be.

Re: Harry Potter
I dunno, considering they don't have a director or any actors attached to the project, I'm not surprised it's still a way's off. But I suppose the amount of prep time varies based on the scope of any given film. Perhaps this one will end up being way bigger than the book it's based on? It's been given a prime holiday spot that the HP series previously saw great success in.

I partially agree with you (I think it's taken longer because Rowling had never written a script, it's a good sign as Warners don't necessarily take good care of their franchises) I think this film may have to go bigger than it should to get an audience (if they are marketing it as part of Potter the kiddy friendly angle the Beasts book has wouldn't really work after DH imo) but I'm still not sold on the need for it-where's the story?, I think she gave up the encyclopedia in favour of Pottermore (which I never bothered joining, I just read the new info on a blog, which Rowling got shut down...) so I wouldn't expect that any time soon.
I've got my fingers crossed for this though, sounds interesting:

Re: Harry Potter
I've gotten a few e-mails from Pottermore lately trying to get me to check out their new Quidditch World Cup content, so I decided to check it out. I haven't signed into Pottermore in well over a year, but I remember my username (one of their dumb automatically generated ones) and successfully guessed my password after a few tries. There a bunch of daily "news reports" supposedly written by Ginny Weasley, who JKR once said in an interview became a professional Quidditch player and then a reporter). I didn't find these all that interesting, and the silly little HP-isms were kind of grating, so I hunted down the "official history" of the World Cup that I'd heard about some time ago. This was more interesting, or at least, as interesting as a short essay about a fictional sport that never really made sense can be. Parts of it felt like they were directed at specific inconsistencies that fans had noted in Goblet of Fire and Quidditch Through the Ages, but all in all it felt like something that might have been included in QTTA a dozen years ago, or whenever that came out. So nostalgia points make it something that I enjoyed and now recommend to other fans.

Fortunately you don't have to slog through the "gameplay" of every chapter leading up to this excerpt, but you do have to be logged in to view it.

Two pieces of movie news from the editor-in-chief of Deadline.com:

Not sure if I believe it, but POA was the best HP movie by a country mile so I would be happy if it's true. But it does seem like kind of a step down to go from Best Picture to a franchise spin-off.

Re: Harry Potter
Maybe instead of ruining Middle-earth more and more, WB will focus mainly on HP spin-offs.

Re: Harry Potter
I'm still wondering what sort of Middle-earth spin-offs Warner Bros. is gonna try to make to keep from losing the license.
If they get directors like Cuaron to helm them, though ... they won't necessarily be good, but I would certainly be more intrigued.

Re: Harry Potter
I was very disappointed with Pottermore, couldnt be bothered after the first one. I was expecting so much more, maybe I was expecting to find myself on Platform 9 3/4 or something.

Just wait until Virtual Reality is technologically and commercially viable. We'll all be visiting Hogwarts and Middle-earth then.

Damn. I never thought about that before, though; now I'm questioning my own Ravenclaw credentials.

spitefulbitch:the stupidest thing in the entire harry potter series was when they go down to the slytherin dormitory and it’s all dark and slimy and freezing and shit. as if lucius malfoy would let his son live in squalor like that. the house with the highest concentration of spoiled purebloods are happy to live under the goddamn lake? no.
wow this is the #1 best harry potter criticism i have ever read
Re: Harry Potter
The image was great.
OT: the biggest HP plot hole/criticism in my mind is the question of how Fred and George never noticed that Ron was sleeping with Peter Pettigrew in the 2+ years that they had the Marauders Map and Ron was at Hogwarts.
