Magikarp lol!

There's lots of flaws and plot holes in HP, and they are quite annoying sometimes. For example, when they moved Harry to the Burrow in book 7 - why on earth did nobody think of side-along apparition instead of risking the lives of 14 people?

Wasn't apparition being tracked by the Ministry, or am I just making that up?

Another, much more meta, plot hole is how the wizarding population of Britain could have/require a government of the scale depicted when there are only a few hundred school age children in the whole country.

I dunno what they call it in Norwegian, but:

http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Apparition

(In normal English usage, an apparition is like a ghost, but that's not what it means in HP.)

If that's the case, Hermione, Ron and Harry would've been trouble every time they moved to a new place in search of the horcruxes. And I'm not buying that chip thingy that seems to be attached to under-age wizards - it reacts to magic around them, or at least they do in book 2 when Dobby sends that cake flying, so in theory there's no way for the Ministry to know if under-age wizards who live in wizard families perform magic or not when they're at home. Or I might have misunderstood the whole thing. It's all very confusing scratch Don't get me wrong, though, I love the books and will probably always do Very Happy It's just that every time I read them I seem to come across plot holes and inconsistensies a bit too often.

You make some good points, but unfortunately it's been too long since I've read Deathly Hallows to really give the response you deserve. I think you're right about the Trace (that's what it was called, right?) not being able to determine who cast magic, even though it's attached to specific individuals. Because Harry lived with Muggles, however, any magic at Privet Drive was assumed to be his doing (as in Chamber of Secrets). So Harry was basically under constant magical surveillance until he turned 17, but his 17th birthday was also when the magical protection of the Dursley's house expired. Or something like that. There's certainly a lot of explanations thrown at the reader in the last few books. Razz

I guess it's best not to think about it all that much. Thinking will only get in the way of a good story, flawed or not Smile

Fantastic Beasts and Where to find Them. film

It might be the first spin-off from one of Hollywood's most successful franchises - but JK Rowling's new film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is staying pretty close to home.

The new movie, which is based on Harry Potter's Hogwarts textbook and follows the adventures of "magizoologist" Newt Scamander, will be filmed right here in the UK at Warner Bros Leavesden studios, where all eight of the Harry Potter movies where also made.

Leavesden can be found a little north of London, near Watford. And it's also the home of The Making of Harry Potter studio tour.

The announcement was made by the culture secretary, Sajid Javid, at an industry event in London.

Fantastic Beasts, which Rowling called "neither a prequel nor a sequel" to the original series, is the author's first screenwriting project. The director and cast are yet to be announced.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is expected to be in cinemas 18 November 2016.

Would it be too much to ask for them do location shooting for some of the "exotic" locations? That might be too costly for what still feels like a cash-in.

wow! Thats convinced me I was right all along to not bother with the Potter books beyond the first few chapters!  Shocked

If you had put that in the Creative Corner thread as a fanfic I would never in a million years have guessed it was the product of world renowned author and not just a forum member- which either means our standard is surprisingly high, or Rowlings isn't!

"Thats convinced me I was right all along to not bother with the Potter books beyond the first few chapters"

Because this last piece she wrote somehow corrupts a series of seven fantastic books? Harry Potter is to millions what Doctor Who seems to be to you. Give that notion some thought. And for your information: Rowling's standard is quite high.

Sorry Ringdrotten, it doesnt seem very high standard in that piece.

I adored Chronicles of Narnia growing up, meant a lot to me, can barely read them as an adult however- perhaps Potter will be one of those phenomenon for some.

It doesnt feel like Rowlings writing. I love HP but this doesnt fit somehow, maybe its the Rita Skeeter style I dont like, but as Ringo said it certainly CANNOT detract from the greatness of HP books.
