This from Tennants time might also help- as although Matt Smith's Doctor has flashes of the ruthless Time Lord beneath you might not have got a full sense of it from this series.

Lovely stuff haggis- but not allowed to cook itin sheeps stomach anymore- spoilsports, ruins the flavour if you don't.

Should probably have a look at the older series as well when I finish the Matt Smith series. For some reason I never liked Tennant, but I'll have to give him a second chance Smile

When your done with the current season you wand silence in the Librabry and the second part Forest of the Dead (they are crucial to what you are watching thats the first time the Doctor meets River) and Blink. All three are Tennant era episodes. After them watch last series (series 5 thanks to the weird numbering system) which is Smith's debut and explains how Amy, Rory ended up with the Doctor and has story arcs still to be resolved and are expected to be (at least addressed) second half of this series in the Autumn (so you've got a bit of time Very Happy )

Yes, with half a centry of Doctor Who to pick from it can be a bit daunting knowing where to start! No fears I will keep you straight and I am sure others will happily chip in with their favourite episodes to recommend- for now I'd stick with watching the ones that are directly related to what you are watching now. So Silence in the Library, Forest of the Dead, Blink, season 5- if you have any problems finding the episodes let me know. I've got bookmarks to sites with them all! Very Happy

I grew up with Pertwee and Baker. I've only had intermittent contact since, though I saw all the First Series when they went to single episodes - was that the Doctor before Tennant?

If the first episode was the introduction of Rose as the companion then yes (the Doctor was Eccleston)

Had its moments but a lot that is quite ropey looking back on it- and its very domestic kitchen sink stuff at times- which worked at the time convincing people it wasn't going to be rubber monsters and sci fi garble every week. And it gave us Moffats first Doctor Who (on TV)

The following scared the crap out of me at the time god alone knows what it did to the kids!

Much as some fans hate to admit (the RTD lovers) Moffat has provided the best 4 episodes since the reboot (not counting those since he took over as boss); The Empty Child, Girl in the Fireplace, Silence in the Library and Blink.

Soory! Embarassed Who speak. RTD=Russel T. Davies- show runner and Head Writer from Eccleston through to the end of Tennants run. Most of the poeple who dislike the last two series since Moffat took over sing the praises of RTD (which is ironic as the best eps like I say of his run were written by Moffat).

Doctor Who - Page 10 Empty Re: Doctor Who

Post by Pettytyrant101 Tue Jun 07, 2011 4:07 pm

Talking of people still enamoured with all things RTD and Tennant there's this;

"'Doctor Who' showrunner Steven Moffat received a "death threat" after the midseason finale on Saturday night (04.06.11).
Not every fan of the BBC sci-fi series was impressed with the reveal (about River Song) and several took to twitter to call for Moffat's demise.
He tweeted: "Only one death threat, two demands for my immediate resignation, and two for my suicide. IT'S A HIT!! (sic)"
Moffat was unapologetic to fans who complained they had guessed the true identity of River - who has been a recurring character in 'Doctor Who' since 2008 - before the episode, entitled 'A Good Man Goes to War', aired.
The 49-year-old writer insisted he always wanted viewers to be able to guess the plot twist.
In another post on his twitter page, he wrote: "I'm sure a fair number DID guess. A twist should ALWAYS be guessable - in this case by 8 year olds (who were mostly way ahead!) (sic)"

For myself I prefer Moffats way of doing this to RTD. Moffat gives you all the clues you need to work it out if you are diligient and want to- its possible because it makes sense in context. With RTD and say 'Bad Wolf' it popped up in a cryptic sort of a way for ages and there were some surroundig clues but it was impossible to work out because he delibrately didn't give enough away so you couldn't- fo rme thats cheating. I like trying to work it out, i like getting clues and for a show with such a high ratio of children watching (for drama) I think its a good thing that they get enough to chew on and muse over and work out, and the fact you might be right is all the more encouraging. So keep it up Mr Moffat, I still love you!

Well, I am sad to tell you there will be no Doctor Who tonight after all! Crying or Very sad Sometimes, as I am sure you will know, one is made an offer one cannot refuse: A social gathering of friends featuring buckie consumption. Yes! - I am well aware of the fact that it is Tuesday. It just so happens that school starts late tomorrow and we are, after all, about to go separate ways - hence the buckie on a Tuesday! Doctor Who must therefore be postponed Embarassed

Very Happy Everything!!

If you decide at some point to go back and watch last series (and of course I HIGHLY recommend it) after you watch episode 1 (11th HOur) go on you tube and search for 11th hour deleted scene- it belongs right at the end, just before ep 2 starts and should never have been deleted!!
