I've never seen a trans-Atlantic flight for less than $1000.
Re: Scheduled maintenance today 12/20/08
Just did a quick check and flying from Glasgow Airort the cheapest I found was 300 quid ($479). But I have seen cheaper and it was just a quick search.

Just looked at British Airways' website and yeah they've got a lot of flights under $500.
It's not like I've never said this before, but man, fuck American airline companies.

How does that work? Like Eldo, I've never seen anything less than multiple hundreds of dollars, and that's during the freezing-ass season, so barely worth it. Do you get charged less if you've leaving from a non-US airport? if so....
BTW Blue - I usually tell people to visit in spring or fall: it's not just the temperature, it's the leaves on the trees. Without them Manhattan is a dismal looking place. But if someone sits down with you and a map, within 20 minutes you'll understand the place and have no problem finding what you want and how to get there.

Just checked, the price differences going from europe to US (round trip) can be significantly lower than US to Europe. But nothing as low as 90 Euro, at least not on the search engine I was using. That's low enough to be worth a weekend trip.

Where is Raddy? I don't remember him mentioning his location.

Close enough to commute to downtown Manhattan for D&D meetings, according to his post in Forest's RPG thread.
(I wouldn't out someone's location if they haven't mentioned it.)

And he mentioned the "south end of Manhattan". If that much detail is provided, he's pretty damn close.

Remind me to get back to this tomorrow - currently a little too "influenced" to give you a proper answer, but there is one!

Yeah, that. And the eternally long streets with tall buildings on each side funneling the bitingly cold wind down them. More that than the temperature, I think. Though it can get cold too in New York, I know.
It was certainly an interesting experience. You know, that was actually the trip I went on with my Folkehøyskole.

Dunno if this is a forum issue or just something weird with my browser but I seem to have lost the Forumshire banner at the top of the page- its just a big blank green one now.

Green is the background color in the header, but it should be competely covered by the image when the header loads properly. Try refeshing the page or perhaps clear your image cache? FWIW, the header still appears normal to me.
Re: Scheduled maintenance today 12/20/08
Mmmm, no idea, still gone and Ive done a complete reboot since. How annoying.

Re: Scheduled maintenance today 12/20/08
I don't think the image cache (or cookies) are affected by rebooting the computer. Is this a problem in multiple browsers?
Re: Scheduled maintenance today 12/20/08
Huh. Now the image isn't showing up on my phone. I'll do some point around when I have time later.

Probably some temporary breakdown in the hosting of said picture, or something.

That sounds like a bad word of the incestuous variety. It doesn't help that Google steadfastly refuses to translate it: "Easy there lad, this isn't one you want to know about."

Well, the image wasn't back for me when it showed up for you guys, but now it is. If anyone else is experiencing header weirdness post here, but otherwise I think we can chalk this one up to gremlins in the servers.
