Re: Questions for the Lore Masters.
Aman Morgoth's Ring: 3000 Sun Years... yes I said 3,000 years [for an Elf child to grow to be an adult]... at least in the early days of the Quendi but this seems subject to change.
By the way I should note that the same was true in Aman, and seemingly did not change in Aman, and was written with 144 Sun Years = 1 Valian Year in mind.
That might be important to Galadriel for example, herself born in Aman. This would also, if implemented without changing the dates to The Tale of Years, have made Galadriel quite old before Melkor was even released from prison.
It can hardly be an accident, however, that 3,000 years is close to 20 Elvish Long Years (using 144), so that all Tolkien need do is think in 'human years' using the same numbers for the dates in Aman, if he is wondering if a given Elf is 'old enough' to do this or that, like join a rebellion or start a hot yoga class.

Sorry I was talking to my horse.
But in response to you David, life isn't fair. So spill and I might consider adding three positive points to your existing negative three, which actually is inching towards negative four with all this off topicry.
I wasn't aware that the elected office of Loremaster included the authority to levy fines, especially for off-topicry of all things!
Since when has there been a law against straying from the topic, especially in Forumshire?
And what, by the way was the topic???
I'm afraid I'll have to raise this question with the authorities in the Site Issues/Complaints thread.

Mrs Figg wrote:she is so damn irritating. I heard the WC in English finally, and its painful, Galadriel sounds like she is drugged and moves like a wooden dummy, its just awful. .She is worse than Azog in the acting department. How can she think that just talking and moving slowly makes her look ethereal? it doesnt. it looks stagey and actressy.
it was clearly a ploy to make her sound like she's been around for so long that time moves at a different speed for her. Or maybe that she's so tuned in telepathically to the rest of the world and her own thoughts that she's only firing at 30% with the people in the same room with her. I appreciated the symbology of what they were trying to do, but in the end it doesn't work.

Halfy I agree with you, thats a good point. But it just ends up with her looking stagey. Its just never going to ring true. I much preferred her in fellowship, she really got it spot-on I thought. I dont know what happened this time though. she seems to have caught Celebornitis.

I wasn't aware either, until I invented it -- but it's not so much for off topicry in general as for your recent avoidinancery of a burning question coupled-with-your-asking-for-points-or-buttons <- without this last part no negative pointing would have occurred, but you stand now at negative 4.
And what, by the way was the topic???
The colour of the plume of Asfaloth's ornamental headstall, I think.
I'm afraid I'll have to raise this question with the authorities in the Site Issues/Complaints thread.
OK but make sure to include the detail that I am innocent of any charges. That should speed things up.

He didnt get much of a go from the sript either- I tell you its the script- trying reading a transcript of the WC- its bloody, shockingly, awful. No one could make that dialogue sound good.

Re: Questions for the Lore Masters.
By the way in a very late letter (1972) the form is Telporno not Teleporno.
I believe that should end any sniggering. Maybe. Ok probably not. And it might just be a variant anyway. Drat.

I hardly think it's worthy of the word "avoidancery" {{whatever worth you put on such a word }}. You solicited my opinion on horses of three colours and I gave you a perfectly valid one at no charge. You returned it and asked for another. I agreed to exchange it, but asked for a reasonable surcharge to cover shipping and handling. It would be unprofessional to do otherwise, and reflect badly on both of us. I'm sure you agree.
But as to off-topicry, I'd like to respectfully point out that, contrary to the thread topic, there recently seem to have been more questions from Loremasters rather than for Loremasters, especially regarding livestock.
I don't mind sharing my equine wisdom for the greater edification of Forumshire, {{ whatever worth you put on it }}. But if I'm to be a loremaster's assistant, then it seems that some sort of stipend would be appropriate, or at least a cool title, don't you think?
I'm thinking of your reputation as a scholar, you understand. You wouldn't want to be accused of plagiarizing a humble farmer-hobbit, would you?

Hmm, more avoidinancery. Negative 5 I'm afraid.
I'll grant you the cool title Horsemaster however. That should speed things up.

Re: Questions for the Lore Masters.
Thank you. I accept the cool title with all due humility.
Now down to business.
As Horsemaster of Forumshire, I hereby authorize myself to levy fines for frivolous, avoidanceryladen posts relating to the subject of horses and their appurtenances, including but not restricted to carrots.
Now let me count....
So at one point per post, and overlooking the gratuitous potato reference for now, that comes to a penalty of exactly -5 points.
If that makes us even as it appears, I'm prepared to get back to horse lore.
Or not. Your move, Loremaster.

No. No this news is just too big to blurt out in this post.
Prepare yourself people. Eat, drink, be merry... but get ready and make no mistake...
... this is huge.
This is Beatrix Kiddo saying 'huge' when-asked-about-the-rats huge. You may need Hanzo steel.
Showmanryness is an important part of pretend loremastering. And I hesitate for the good of the people. If one looks upon the dragon and sees him all at once, at a single glance, it might burn one's mind...
... which has nothing to do with anything here, but is well noted in any case
On second thought I may have gotten carried away a bit, but I do like that scene in Kill Bill.
Actually, now that I really think about it... it's pretty boring. I'll post it on Friday (or some Friday) if anyone still cares. I know I no longer do.
Sorry but I put my book away... and I wanted an exact quote... but again it's nothing really, as far as I can remember anyway. I think it was something about potatoes, but probably not. My apologies.
Just kidding before. This is awesome! This is my most important post since my last post before those posts that were really only kidding that this wasn't huge.
This is the Holy Grail of horse quotes, like finding Jason's Grey Fleece, like finding the Sapling in the Snow. This is like discovering shampoo and conditioner in the same bottle!
Well, it's like these things only because I hadn't found it earlier I guess. Unless I already posted this and forgot. But anyway, ladies and gentle farmers, I give you, with first some High Elvish to mark the event…
Yé! utúvienyes!

But Horsemaster David you seem to be forgetting that you only lost points due to avoiding the question 'coupled with' asking for points or buttons... and I even explained it was your asking for points that was the only reason you received negative points.
And no buttons.
Now that that is clearerer, you may respond to the original inquiry... if you like of course.

Im not entirely sure these ARE misshappen veggies? They are discarded Alien anatomy parts,as the alien grows. Somewhere along the line David is involved, (by foul craft) in some deep rooted, sinister plan. Ive never seen fruit OR veg in anyones garden, allotment, Market store or supermarket, like these. Hes after world domination I say ! Triffids were just experimental loo brushes compared to whats going on, dont say I didnt warn yer !!
