Re: Doctor Who [2]
BBC have released a publicity pic for the first epiosde of series 7 Asylum of the Daleks.
- Spoiler:
Lots of different era Daleks there.
Left foreground is aTime War Era Dalek -Doctor 9/10
Behind it is a Heavy Weapons Dalek from the 7th Doctor era.
And at the back behind it is a new Dalek from 11th's era.
Right foreground is an original Dalek from 1st Doctor era.
Not sure about the one behind to the right or behind that- they look like 3rd and 4 th era but I'm not certain.
And its another new 11th era at the back on the right too.

Re: Doctor Who [2]
Series 7 trailer
Not to advertise my own stuff or anything, but incase you haven't been keeping up to date the Canthiss and Lydia thread has morphed temporarily into a Skyrim/Who cross-over story!
- Spoiler:
- Daleks! Lots and lots of 'em! Dinosaurs! On a space ship! Love the big mean robots with the meek voices.
Well Moffat has been hinting that this series was going to be like a tv movie an episode and I can see what he meant. He is clearly thinking big here given Who's budget still isnt close to a comparable US sci-fi show.
This is Moffats third series and third time altering the series format. If it wasn't Moffat that might look like a sign of not being sure rather than his belief it has to always keep the audience on its toes. But I've trusted him this far and he hasn't let me down but exceeded my expectations so..Geronimo!!!

New trailer is pretty great! I'm excited now and I haven't even seen series five or six.
Still planning on watching Blink and hopefully some of Smith.

Re: Doctor Who [2]
The clock is ticking Eldo! New series countdown has begun! I can't wait- in truth I am much more excited now about a new series of Who than I am about the Hobbit. And much as I love Who, that shouldn't be the case.

well I am more excited about Game of Thrones, and that shouldnt be the case either. sigh.
anyway I saw The Runaway Bride, very slowly what with the buffering, and Donna reminds me of someone, I cant think who. obviously she has a cockney accent and is a LOT more chunky round the middle, but the stroppytude is familiar

Re: Doctor Who [2]
Mrs Figg the first of the Martha Jones as the new companion stories is next- Judoon on the Moon! (Donna doesn't return as companion for another series yet).
The first Martha episode is called 'Smith and Jones.' 'Partners in Crime' is the first episode with Donna returning to be companion.
In celebration of the upcoming episode Asylum of the Daleks some Dalek stuff for you. Get to know the Doctors no1 enemy!
The Doctors first ever meeting with the Daleks.
Classic Dalek Death!
The Dalek Invasion of Earth
Davros (creator of the Daleks) and the Doctor have a nice chat- from the classic Genesis of the Daleks
Clips from the 9th Doctor story Dalek
The 10th Doctor meets an old foe.
Torchwood and the Doctors old companion react to the news the Daleks are coming!
Sorry these were meant to be in order but this is a 9th Doctor episode.
A young Eddie Izzard does some Dalek material.
Bonus non Dalek related vid- just stumbled on it, apart from the overly used soundtrack does give a nice sense of the darker side to the Doctor. Say hello to the Oncoming Storm. (warning contains some scenes from series 6)
Couldn't find this earlier- 11 says hello. (Series 6 clip)

Re: Doctor Who [2]
an article on Who in the Huffington Post that caught my eye-
'No, I am here to tell you why Doctor Who is one of the very best things on television. Yep, you heard me. I, a grown woman, confess that Doctor Who is my favourite thing about Saturday evenings. 6pm sees me clutching the sofa cushions in excitement, and alternately swooning over Matt Smith and Arthur Darvill.
I realise I am painting myself out to be a bit sad, so I will add that as soon as Doctor Who finishes I run straight out of the door to enjoy myself, like normal people do on a Saturday night. Sometimes, anyway.
Back to The Doctor. When the BBC resurrected Doctor Who back in 2005, I was only dimly aware of it. But as soon as David Tennant took over the role, it piqued my interest and I started watching. I was hooked after two episodes. I would like to say it was Tennant's red Converse that kept me coming back, but it wasn't. It was because Doctor Who has something really magical about it. As a family programme, it is not penned in by the cynicism you find in adult programmes. It isn't set within the confines of normal reality - it reaches far out to the stars and beyond a million possibilities. It is quite simply built on imagination, complete with the beauty and devastation that exist there.
It isn't a light and fluffy programme akin to something you might find on CBeebies. It is sometimes raw, sometimes angry, often impossibly complicated. It is real life, re-imagined in a world with few limits; a world where heroes can and do exist; a world with darkness but so much light; a world where bow ties are cool. It can take you on a roller coaster from the downright ridiculous to the impossibly sad in a single episode, without ever losing that inherent message of hope that Doctor Who seems to embody. It's not something that can be dismissed as being aimed at kids. It is so much more than that.
Whether it is about being brave, or being honest, or being fantastically eccentric for the sake of it, there are a hundred messages in Doctor Who that both children and adults can learn from. It's ok to be scared sometimes, or stupid, or plain ludicrous. Doctor Who is one of the best things on television, because it has something truly rare: it has heart.
And I think that's kind of extraordinary.
A programme that brings together children, their nostalgic parents and grandparents and normal (!) women like me? That's pretty rare. A programme that does it all with an eccentrically sexy male lead? Even better. But the true beauty of Doctor Who is that it's infectiously exciting. It's funny and brilliant and devastating all at once. So go ahead and dismiss it if you like, but if you dare to open your mind, you might just find a place for Doctor Who. Let your inner child out for a bit and get to know The Doctor. He's pretty cool, you know.'- Ashley Fryer, Huffington Post
Well summed up I'd say.

The Metal guy is amazing; I love his stuff. I heard his LOTR cover a while ago and really liked that one too.
Really, all of his stuff is great, but it's even better when you know the original.

Oooh intriguing Ally.
Given they already have a few big name guest stars lined up and announced so far this could be interesting.
My guess is, as they are currently filming the xmas special, that it will be a guest star for that episode.
There wasn't a 'big' name guest star in last years but they had Michael Gambon in the previos years xmas special so there is precedent.

But shouldnt you be posting your thoughts on Blink by now Eldo!
I got around to watching Blink today. Netflix has all of NuWho through series six but I've been distracted by the Olympics and other stuff. I finally sat down to watch it and goddamn was it fantastic. I loved every minute of it. Scary but also funny and moving at times. There was so much to work with that the story could have easily been a feature film but at the same time it didn't feel rushed at all. Masterful writing from Moffat and great performances all around, especially from Carey Mulligan. I loved her in Drive and she was if anything even better in this.
Thanks to all who suggested I watch this. I thought it was brilliant!
