Re: Tales of Home [1]
Major flooding in coastal areas, where sharks are apparently swimming in the streets (this one in New Jersey)
Re: Tales of Home [1]
HOLY SMOKES! We keep saying that it's like that movie "the Day after Tomorrow," especially since the storm is going to bring some random snow storms into West Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennesse. Someone else told me NYC is being evacuated (though I'm not sure that true...) But stay safe you two! Ulmo is just having a fit, a very BAD fit

Re: Tales of Home [1]
Portions of NYC were ordered to evacuate along the shoreline. There's still millions of people in the city though. One and a half million are currently without power after the utility shut off the grid for Lower Manhattan. There's also been a record 13-foot storm surge.
I hope you can get Ulmo on the line soon, Your Maj!

I added a red dot to show my approximate location:
oh, you're in the middle of it all! though it is said that it will loose power as soon as it hits shores, so maybe it isn't that when it reaches you. I hope my friend from class who is taking a year in Virginia is okay... Where's Florida? is it there somewhere?

Re: Tales of Home [1]
that is so true.. like here southernes come up here when it is stormy and are like "OMG! IT'S SO WILD!" then they interview one of the locals and they're just like "naaah... just a drizzle and a healthy breeze".halfwise wrote:Of course the media up here are trying to play it up as more than it is: got reporters out filming live in the storm and making grandiose statements about how bad it is ... with crowds of people standing behind them making faces and waving at friends.
Re: Tales of Home [1]
Eldorion wrote:NYC is more likely to get rain tomorrow. The storm is passing over Maryland tonight and then heading more directly north. The eye will be more inland but the damn thing is so huge that it almost doesn't matter. I'd definitely be worried about the wind (especially with the canyon effect) and the storm surge though, given NYC is basically at sea level.
this is both scary and really exciting

"naaah... just a drizzle and a healthy breeze".- Norc
Reminds of English folk when they come up here too Norc- they want to go up the mountains and the locals are looking round going "what mountains? Those are just hills for a gentle walk up."
And they either go ridiculous underprepared- sandals and shorts- or ridiculously overprepared- mountaineering gear and ropes to go up a hill!

I bet the locals are the ones walking in sandals I myself walked barefoot or in converse
Re: Tales of Home [1]
I have no idea how one walks in converse.
But sandals are more an english thing here- sandals with socks.
Scots tend not to wear them, better off with a good solid pair of muckle boots- that way you dont risk cutting yourself on all the disgarded empty buckie bottles.
