you lot are weird, and your weather is weird. people are sunbathing on the beach here, and you can keep your sodding snow.

Re: Tales of Home [1]
I was going to post that I was jealous of Norc for having snow, but our late October heat wave finally reached Maryland and it's now 80 degrees (27 C) outside. I'm going to break out the shorts for what could be the last time until spring and enjoy the beautiful weather.
Re: Tales of Home [1]

Re: Tales of Home [1]
Ha down hill on a plastic bag- ah that takes me back- myself and six friends once went down a huge steep hillside on a huge sheet of polythene, as everyone grabbed the edge of it and your natural tendency was to lean backwards it began spinning as it descended, getting faster and faster until people started getting thrown off- by the time it got to the bottom there were none of us left aboard- we were all planted in the snow at various points down the hillside.

I always get annoyed when you go to a great sledding hill, lots of families out there, and the soddin' 6-year-olds go tramping right back up the middle of the hill after their run: not just forming obstacles, but ruining the snow.
I aim right at 'em. Good lesson for them about community responsibility, and kids bounce.

I imagine that getting run down by you would be rather like getting hit with a Nerf ball.

well, if they walk in the middle, they get run over. survival of the fittest. Kids here seem to pick up on that rather early, maybe because we live in sledding hills all winter.

Re: Tales of Home [1]
We dont get any proper snow where I am. We get those horrible days of blizzards which grinds the nation to a halt (I mean the nation of England Petty since you are so bent on jilting us!!). Within a a day or 2 full of car crashes, everything turns to black mush and is just horrible.
That is why I dont like the snow here!!
I have had time is places where you get proper snow that isnt subject to the abuse of life and is constantly refreshed. That is nice snow. I imagine that is what you are getting Norcy.

Re: Tales of Home [1]

Re: Tales of Home [1]

I like the way you work, Norc. A typical kid has to be knocked on his ass about a half dozen times before linking up cause and effect. We only get good sleddable snow 2 or 3 times a year, then they forget everything they learned between winters. Is okay, more target practice.

Re: Tales of Home [1]
all day, as I said, it has been below zero and this wonderful crisp light and blue sky, just temporarily disturbed by some snowflakes, so i thought, once I get home i'm gonna go outside and take photographs and all. But what do you think happened when school ended 14.35? the sun when down (not dark, but it disappeared) and a huge, heavy snow-cloud approached. so now, not as nice light to take photographs, but I am still going out ^^
Re: Tales of Home [1]
Since the Norclet is out either taking pictures or being pelted with snowballs, I thought I'd fill in thematically with some pictures of New York's famous central park in the snow.
(BTW, I photoshopped out a few distant boys in the picture above to make this more atmospheric)

hobbits are always welcome, though you may have to pay for your own carriage ride: prices are through the roof.

Re: Tales of Home [1]
I forgot my camera but it was probably too dark to get any good ones. The sky was cloudy and the only light source was the island with the city. really atmospheric. Me and a friend took some sledge...
this type of thing.
and walked up the forest. we were planning on reached the forest limit, but then changed our minds. We raced down, sometimes with immense speed, sometimes full stop. It's very fun, because you have quite good control. Then we followed a track, less trees and smaller bushes to crash into (and get smacked in the face with) and damn! I had probably a hundred miles per hour! weeee!!! did I mention it was very little light?

Re: Tales of Home [1]
btw, lovely photos! <3 we have almost the same amount ^^ a little bit more perhaps, but not much
Re: Tales of Home [1]
the New York photos are from several years ago: should have gone back last winter when we had an unusually deep snowfall.

Re: Tales of Home [1]
Beautiful pictures, Halfwise. I've been to New York in the winter a couple of times but there wasn't snow on either of those occasions.
Re: Tales of Home [1]
visiting new york in winter is typically a bad idea unless there's snow: it's the only thing that keeps it from looking dreary if there's no leaves on the trees.
