Be my guest. You can borrow the «roll over» line.

We do seem to have scared off that JohnnyD character - if Bree is overrun with such types and they don't have a strong enough community left to intimidate them I can see Bree becoming the home of ruffians.

If by that you mean spam, then yes.

Re: Hobbit Forum Refugees
Yeah, I was referring to the spam problem.
NB In case anyone was wondering, no, JohnnyD was not the same as the Barry guy with all the sockpuppets.
I'd really appreciate you guys chilling out and not chasing people off because they have poor English skills or make a weird thread when they first join. Thanks in advance. Regardless, though, the majority of people who join forums (any forum) don't stick around very long.halfwise wrote:We do seem to have scared off that JohnnyD character - if Bree is overrun with such types and they don't have a strong enough community left to intimidate them I can see Bree becoming the home of ruffians.

Re: Hobbit Forum Refugees
you cant blame us for getting Jumpy though. recently nearly every newcomer was seemingly a troll, nice one minute and being nasty the next, it makes people wary and put their guard up. specially after we all welcome them and try to be nice, its a slap in the face. It would be helpful to know beforehand who is a known troll and who is an innocent newbie, but thats not possible, so we just go on gut instincts, and if someone is writing in bad English one minute and perfect Englsh the next, it looks weird.

Re: Hobbit Forum Refugees
Johnny did not have spelling/grammar problems. Compare his thread title "somebody who has seen the DOS..." to his second full post, which was totally coherent and incisive. Forest picked up on it immediately: Johnny was intentionally messing with us by pretending to lack grammar. We've seen his type before.

Re: Hobbit Forum Refugees
If you think someone is a troll, just send a mod a PM and then ignore him. If the guy really is a troll, that's the last response he would want. If he's not a troll, then nobody will have accidentally been rude to him. Everyone wins.
Re: Hobbit Forum Refugees
Not as much fun for us, but more civilized, I guess.

Hello LeeLee...
Lovely to meet you too. Im only dipping my toe in the shire occasionally ATMO, and Im only dropping in now as I think im going to the cinema this evening to go see a certain Dragon... But see you around. Hello to Amarie et al too. For everyone else, is Pixie Boots here at all ? I quite miss her.
Orwell, I liked your words about moving on. And I have done. Cheers. But its NOT my fault that Bree went under. Maybe that had to do with the type of site it was, not cosying up to the Jacksee-lovers, and being a Haven for Book-loving Tolkien fans in Cinema-land.
See you all around.
