I think it looks man-made. Nonetheless, it's lubbly.

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
I have a problem with PJ's Bag End- always have had- its got no garden, certainly not one requiring full time gardeners (and most of the time its had two). In Tolkiens illustration there should be proper gardens with flower beds, and little hedges, and vegetable and herb patches as well as lots of flowers stretching of to the left of the windows- in PJ's there is nothing just the edge of the hill and a big ugly uncut bush of some sort.

While there's plenty more to quibble with Jackson's portrayal of the Shire from a purist perspective, I have to say that both the pics Chris posted are absolutely gorgeous. The concept art wallpaper has a distinctly John Howe feel to me, though I could be mistaken.
Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
I love that painting of Bagend I have never seen it before, but it does look john Howeish.

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
It's not exactly a new picture but there's a very interesting post about some of the original images here. Someone very painstakingly went through the pictures of Bilbo holding a contract had to c in high-resolution to find out the actual text of the contract. Read it for yourself here.
Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
So it is as poor a thing as first gueesed- a novelty comedy contract- well I can seee the dwarf race is going get treated well again!

It's kind of a Hollywood insider lawyer joke. If you've ever seen a Hollywood contract for the smallest little thing, it's hard to imagine they could use more words to say less

I get the joke, I just think it is misplaced, not needed and not funny. But then again I am just a fan of the book, it's good that PJ is around to improve everything and tell us how it should have been done in the first place.

I'm just slightly worried for the individual who thought it was a fun way to spend time, trying to read a completly out of place item?

For myself, I'd love to see a faithful adaptation, but we know that ain't happening so I'm setting my expectations as low as possible. I define that as "Better than the Rankin Bass Cartoon".
If only the wood elves have some sense of Faerie about them and the scene between Bilbo and Smaug inspires a sense of awe and incorporates some of Tolkien's epic perspective and language I'll be............well, maybe not happy, but I'll be able to overlook a lot of dwarven slapstick humor.

I'm relying on pettys need to edit this out as far as possible, along with all other silly extras to get what might be more truthfully termed a hobbit movie!

Exactly! If they give him anything at all to work with, I have absolute faith in Mr Tyrant to give us one watchable film out of the two.

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
I'm flattered. I suspect watching TH will be an odd experience for me, part of my brain I expect to be trying to explode with anger whilst another part will be going "oh I could cut that and join it with that - that could work".

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
I am wondering how I am going to watch them his time.
Having arrived here as someone who thought the films were okay, but hadn't really analysed it I seem to have become increasingly aware of why I think they are wrong. i have a horrid feeling I will be more critical this time and not able to enjoy the cinema experience
I hope I will just be able to suspend disbelief and get lost in PJ's reimagining

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
Poor you Kafria, I know how you feel. Do what I do, read the book, get lost in LOTR and ignore everything Petty has to say the last two weeks before the Hobbit premier ^_^ and yes, don't read any reviews on TH until about two or three weeks later. Gives you time to develop your own opinion and stick with it that's what I'm going to do
Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
I always ignore what Petty says, so its business as usual for me.

new pictures..............
I have decided as of Return of the King that these films are not adapted from Tolkien, they are just movies that borrow things and see them as sort of groupies, posers and leave it at that. Then i can find things to like and not think twice that they are Tolkien. Only someone who could not write his or her own epic story and just took from the original bits and pieces and the rest is unrelated filler. Two of my family though refuse to see it and that is that. They feel complaining about it and then viewing it is hypocritical so they simply won't view it.We are rather a stubborn lot when it comes to that. There are many many movies we have never watched because of this view we take. So.......oh well.

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
Well it's funny, I hadn't seen any of the films for over a year, sat down last november and watched all the films over a weekend. Beforehand I figured "Well I can't possibly enjoy these films as much, considering how bad they're supposed to be!" but once I forgot about certain people's opinions, I fell back in love with, what I regard, my favourite film of all time!
Leelee, nothing wrong with not liking the films- though I'm glad it's at least (reconisably) an adaptation of Tolkien, otherwise I would have never gone on to read the books!

Good for you Ally, enjoy them as adaptations of LOTR, because they are some of the most beautiful films to sit back and watch.
