Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
Beorn
Swedish actor Mikael Persbrandt, known for his leading “tough-guy” roles, spoke recently about playing the reclusive and heroic Beorn.
In The Hobbit, Beorn is an immense brawny shapeshifter, who is vegetarian and lives in a wooden house between the Misty Mountains and Mirkwood on his own after the Orcs killed the rest of his race. Beorn can transform at will into a bear. Mikael describes a scene, which could well be the part of the story where Beorn interrogates a wolf and a goblin to verify Gandalf’s story.
In an interview (translated from Swedish), Mikael spoke about what it was like to play Beorn.
“When, during the first days, I was hoisted up to the ceiling in the west King Kong studio in Wellington, I knew what to do. Even though it was embarrassing and a hassle to start with a severe torture scene, I knew I could even suggest things.”
Peter Jackson was impressed with your audition.
“I did not made it complicated. Just as one can imagine “how exactly would I react if I lose a child ?”…
[He bends down and knocks in the wooden floor.]
” … no more than I can imagine “what am I like as a Shapeshifter”?, living with horses and animals in the forest. One must look into oneself and try. I act pretty much in the same way in “The Hobbit” as I would in a love drama.”
There has been much anticipation of “The Hobbit”.
“I bought a mountain bike in New Zealand and was often up biking in the mountains while I was waiting.”
It is the in the Hamilton-movies that you trained your body?
“Yes, but it comes in damn handy in New Zealand. It is for Hamilton that I was with the Navy Seals and the Swedish equivalent. I’ve been at this gym.” [He points to the shirt with "Nacka martial arts center."]
“I drive all the time. Including this morning. Two miles uphill and then weights. It has become like a poison to me. Six days a week.”
You practice your English?
“Yes, I do that with Peter Jackson’s film. In Hamilton I talk in both Russian and English. I try to be a good student. I have had some resistance. It was useless to go for English lessons at home when you did not have concrete offers abroad.”

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
Interesting PJ has choosen to have the torture scene on screen- its off the page in the book- as might be appropriate for a kids book- its one thing to make children aware such things happen quite another to show them it.
I reckon this will be a pg12 here at least way ts going- bit of a bugger if youve say a 7yr old whose favourite book is TH and you have to tell them they cant see it for another 5 years!

I already posted that in this thread two pages ago. It's certainly intriguing, though!

Cool map showing M.E laid over Europe, from The Shire being Oxfordshire. I live in Gondor so I am happy, but Mordor looks like Buckarest or somewhere like that.

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
I saw your posting of this over oon Bree first Mrs Figg so I have just copied and pasted my response from there.
That fits perfectly with my preferred 'how to make a LotR's film' Mrs Figg!
I have always said they should have been much more distinct in the look of each region of Middle-earth and in climate and in accents and racial types.
I would have cast Italians as the Gondorians and shot there too, I would have made the Rohirrim Germanic.
And the light is different in Italy too (why so many artists go there) one of the problems with everything beng shot in NZ is all the plant life and all the lighting is the same, but if you travel from England to the south of Europe there is a marked difference in all these things absent from PJ's representationof ME

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
Well this is getting a bit predictable but here goes, they did show the Gondorians as dark haired and the Rohirrim as blonde so they thought of that already. The lighting of Ithilien, which is Mediteranean in atmosphere was sunny in the film and the Macchia Mediterranea shown in the film in the scenes in Ithilien while they first met Faramir and were making camp was almost exact to that found in italy. The landscape of NZ is amazingly diverse, and it was perfect from the rolling hills of the Shire to the rugged Rohan (apart from the grass not being green enough) and the mountains of Gondor.

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
I wouldnt have said the differneces went beyond hair colour- and where were the distinct accents different parts should have- the hobbits have distinct accents- PJ doesnt bother giving them one but then he leaves in the line at Bree from Harry "whats more hobbits out of the Shire by your talk". Even though all four hobbits have different accents! Including Scottish which means Pippin has somehow, whilst living in the Shire picked up a dwarven accent!

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
No one in LOTR had accents as all the actors had to talk in accentless English. its a convention. We were lucky to get Sam and Pippin with an accent.

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
I love that map! Much nicer and more faithful to Tolkien than that horrid 'hybrid' map showing Rohan as north of the Shire.

Nah, I think of that more as just a comedy item. The one I had in mind seems to be taken seriously by a lot of people despite not making a lot of sense from any perspective, geographical or textual. In any event, I misremembered what was shown as being north of the Shire when it shouldn't be (it's actually Moria), but even so.

Wouldn't want to be a miner in your part of the world then Semiramis. Never know what you will find down there!
Great pics but not keen on the Smaug in either of them- doent look smart, cunning, or ancient enough for me.
