Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
Here's the new pics from the link Chris provides.
Not to keen on the barrel stuff either Chris- on th eplus side, from their poses looks like they will at least be sealed in the barrels to start with. The dwarves in the mountain scene still dont say dwarf to me. And not to have a go at Cate but you can tell (especially from her neck) its a long time since she last played the role, which is fine, everyone ages she is still a beautiful women, but elves are ageless- I suspect her age might explain the odd lighting they seem to be using for her to help disguise it. But super high 48fps isn't going to help hide it I fear but make the fact she is older more obvious- bit of a problem as she is actually 50 odd years younger in TH than in LotR's (although for an elf that just means she should look exactly the same). A similar problem exists for Elrond, who looks notably older than he did in LotR's- Gandalf gets away with it as the nose and beard and hair will hide a lot.

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
Used the windows 7 inbuilt snipping tool Chris, saved them to my desktop and uploaded them to my photobucket album. Can't remember if it was in Xp and Vista (vista lasted about 2minutes on my pc. Just awful )

I usually just drag the pic to iPhoto, but wouldn't let me. I can copy yours but not off the main link.

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
With a photobucket account you can get an addon that usually just lets you right click and upload a pic from any site direct to your album- but some stuff you cant- then I just use the snipping tool.

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
Gollum looks really unnatural. I don't like the color palette in any of the released images so far and I think it clashes horribly with the Gollum CGI. Also, his eyes have always been big, but in the latest pic they seem to have swollen to anime character levels. That might just be the angle though.

I tried doing that but the Entertainment Weekly site wouldn't let me right-click the images. I think they were using Flash for the slideshow, which prevents you from selecting individual elements for highlighting or copying. I don't know what the Windows 7 "snipping" tool is though.
Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
If you have windows 7 (it might be in earlier versions not sure) just search your programs for 'snipping tool' its built in so should be there. It lets you selct any area of the screen you want and save it as a png. Very handy tool -its icon is a pair of scissors on a white background with a red circle- I just used to it to snip what it looks like on my taskbar :

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
Very neat. I always just use print screen and then crop the resulting file in GIMP. This is much easier. Thanks for the tip, Petty.
Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
yes, agree about Gollum (I was hoping they'd alter him a bit so he would look even more like Serkis. Although Gollum has never had the correct proportions. HIis head and eyes are too big) and good luck with Cate.

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
It's a bit of an Arthur Dent dressing gown that. I'm guessing PJ is having the dwarves arrive later than in the book where they come round for tea. This look like they are turning up in the middle of the night or something.

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
The second pic looks like someone from the cover of People, not a proud but worn-down Dwarven chieftain.
Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
was going to argue there petty, but you can clearly see the moonlight in the doorway.
Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
Not impressed by those pics at all, the hyper real look is really cheap and nasty, it looks like guys in costumes, its lost the 'magic'. They are doing a 'Yates' and killing the enchantment.
As for Kate, she is 43, which in Hollywood is like 35 in normal years, what with the plastic surgery/botox etc, so its a bit of a stretch to say she looks too old. her neck looks fine to me.
the more I look at these photos the more they suck, they look harsh and crude, the colours are hard and cold, truly ugly stuff, my compliments to the chef.

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
I only mean she is noticably older (as is Elrond) than they should be, both because this is 50 years before LotR's and because she is an elf. Not disagreeing she is a beautiful woman, just that she is a noticably older beautiful woman than in LotR's. And I think that partly explains the particularly over the top use of colour tweaking and lighting in the WC bits and Rivendell to try to hide it as much as possible.

If you are using a mac, use command-shift-4 chris, and you can select out any part of the screen (click and drag).

I use two hands. this is perhaps the most used feature among people who know, not sure why apple hid it in a 3 key combination.

you can right click on the new macs by using two fingers on the tab thing. hold one finger on while clicking with another.halfwise wrote:chris63 wrote:I usually just drag the pic to iPhoto, but wouldn't let me. I can copy yours but not off the main link.

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
This is different from the right click, which actually has about 4 different options on a mac. I seem to remember seeing that on the newest macs the select screenshot function has been put into a function key or something.
