Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
I think there is a very fine line between the creative and the kitsch in this case with some of the dwarves, and I mean axes in heads and Mongolian Airways flight attendants here. Its gone past creative into the realms of the absurd. and distracting.

Follow the middle way! There's nothing wrong with liking the films for the most part but feeling let down by other parts.

From an article you posted:
The seated dwarf in the center has a piece of an axe embedded in his forehead.

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
whoah. didn't even notice that! I suppose this is just PJ's lame attempt to give the less mentioned dwarves a bit more character. Which leads me to wonder if he'll end up killing off Kili and Fili, since they're both attractive and bringing in the "fan girls."

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
I don't really have a problem with PJ wanting to develop the characters of the Dwarves (some of them do end up blending together a bit in the book) since he has more time to do so. He needs something to fill two movies that will probably be three hours each; there's just not that much story even with the White Council. However, an axe in the head is not character development no matter what PJ may think, and I hope that he will take a more sophisticated approach then we may expect.

Alot of these dwarves (dwarfs) are only there to make up the special needs/learning difficulties/SEN quota on the expedition it seems, though encouraging, leaves the film looking a bit, what's the word.................(quietly ushered into old GB's special chat room)

Hmmm, perhaps... I hope so, in my head the ponies on the books were very similar to icelandic horses. Hard to say when the one in front is a brown horse wearing a white sheep. The ones in the back looks better though.

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
Is that a cauldron on the back of his pony, or have I been reading too much Harry Potter lately? I just double-checked and it appears in the trailer as well. Perhaps I'm being forgetful, but I don't recall any mention of Bilbo lugging a cauldron around in the book.
Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
Well spotted Eldo, hadnt noticed that. I thought he ran out of bagend with nothing but a hanky. Must be the Dwarves.

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
That's true in the book, though the trailer appears to show Bilbo running from Bag End to the Green Dragon wearing a backpack and carrying the comically-long contract in his hands. I agree that we can assume the pony and other baggage was provided by the Dwarves and/or Gandalf, though.
Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
Maybe the dwarves figured he wasn't going to show and they'd already payed for the pony so they started piling it up with extra baggage.

Re: More Hobbit pictures | SPOILER THREAD
Interesting idea, Petty. Alternatively, perhaps the Dwarves figured that since Hobbits were smaller and thinner the pony could take a little extra weight. There are plenty of interesting possibil- ... oh, who am I kidding. It's PJ. He probably threw in the cauldron for some ridiculous gag in which Bilbo drops it on spiders or goblins.

To true I fear Eldo!
