well said Mrs Figg Wink There is probably a good explanation behind all this. The least possible thing to me is that Bilbo himself brought it along. In the trailer we see him with a backpack, well, I don't see a problem with that. I can pack a little backpack in about two minutes. Probably not the most useful things. I bet that that is what Bilbo did. He just shoved some stuff into a bag and ran off.

Very true Mrs Fig. Feeding 13 dwarves and a hobbit and a wizard would indeed require the proper tools.

My concern is for the poor pony. From a materials science point of view, that cast iron pot should weigh at least as much as two hobbits, and should more properly be on a pack animal of its own. Better yet, it should travel by cook wagon as would often accompany groups of this size. I'm afraid that a pony of any spirit would quickly shake free of a load that heavy, that high and that far aft.

Too many gold buttons still on his waistcoat- so must be before the Misty Mountains!
(Ha look at me foolishly using the book to judge a image from a PJ adaptation! -and to think some people dont think I'm optimistic!)

Some how the part when Bilbo's waistcoat buttons go flying and the goblins are falling over each other to grab them will not be
in the film (sadly) but if it is what scene would the photo be taken from ?

They have to have the buttons flying off as tries to squeeze trough the closing door- its brilliant!

Assuming that its in for the moment then this has to be a shot either approachng the trolls (and its not been filtered yet) or towards Rivendell as there isnt anywhere else.
If the buttons arent in ( Evil or Very Mad ) then it could be right after his escape from the Misty Mountains when he is approaching the dwarves and Gandalf ready to put on the Ring and slip passed the dwarf guard to suprise them.
Sadly I think the latter most likely as he has his fist clenched in a manner reminiscent of Ian Holms performance at the start of Fellowship when he grasps the Ring in similar fashion. But that means no buttons flying off! Extremely Crabbit

It looks like a Trollshaws scene to me, given that the costume doesn't look weather-worn and that the forest resembles those used to represent Eriador in LOTR. I'm sure this is just a press photo and that the scene, when it appears in the final film, will be color graded to PJ's specifications. If the trailer told us anything visual, it's that this entire movie is going to be color edited extensively.

I hope the colours, given the 3D and all new technology as well as better cameras in general, will be more realistic and so on. Not too many colour adjustments Smile

That would certainly be nice, but the color editing in the trailer was really unnatural and jarring to me. PJ talked a bit about the color palette in Mirkwood in one of the production videos and while I can understand (if not necessarily agree with) wanting to give that forest an alien color design, a lot of the shots of wilderness and even some of the characters in the trailer (especially Galadriel) looked like they had been painted. In contrast, I think the LOTR films had quite natural and subtle color design, and even when they were portraying deliberately fantastical scenes the colors didn't jump out as strange.

The colours all looked a bit over done and like it had all been airbrushed or something, especially the Rivendell and Galadriel stuff. For the moment I am willing to give it the benefit of the doubt and asusme it all works colourwise when viewed in 3d throught the glasses- although that doesn't bode well for when it eventually is out for home viewing as I'm unlikely to have a 3d tv by then!

PJ should read the plays of Anton Chekov. YOU DON'T NEED SPECTACLE WHEN YOU HAVE A FANTASTIC STORY RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU!!!! The beauty lies in the subtleties in the story and the meanings behind the words! Not just the words at face value! Evil or Very Mad

The spider scene is my guess too. It would explain why Sting looks stained and used: he was probably just cutting through the webbing with the blade. I notice that the blog states that the scene is from Gollum's cave, but I can't see why they would claim that. For what it's worth, TORn agrees with the spider interpretation too.

There is a certain 'caveness' to the background and lighting but everything else would seem to indicate spider scene to me. Unless PJ has put spiders in the Misty Mountains.....

I certainly hope not. Keeping in mind how gloomy Mirkwood is supposed to be beneath the canopy, though, (notice the name Razz) I don't think the cave-esque lighting it out of place for that setting. Smile
