well I am English and I love PJ's Bagend. I have also lived in the Cotswolds around Woodstock, pretty much 100% Tolkien country, and PJ has got it looking very similar to what I remember, its not exact but the feel is right, its magical. But as the English countryside has changed since the 19th century, even people who live in the Cotswolds today are not seeing it like Tolkien did. There are now huge fields of bright yellow rape, and all the spraying means no wild flowers, most of why we love Tolkiens descriptions is because of an imagined English countryside probably last seen in the eighteenth century. I say imagined because in the struggle to survive I doubt crofters and peasants had the leisure time to cultivate flower gardens, it would be back breaking work in the fields from dawn to dusk, only in the Victorian age there was a middle class romantisized view of country village life as the Industrial revolution took its iron hold and changed cities into smoky dirty cess pits. The Victorians starting with William Morris and Pugin looked to a romantic medieval past to escape the industrialized present, a whole buisness of romantisizing the countryside started up and it became fashionable and healthy to live in the suburbs, Industrialists would build for their workers Garden Cities, they were fake villages in effect, like Cadbury and Lever, a little bit of country life in minature, and each person would display this with flowers. the chocolate box was born.

But I'd like to point out that there's really very little a humble farmer hobbit can do to assist someone with full moderator powers (that have allowed him to go places where I can't {{and wouldn't}} follow) except provide encouragement.

Mmm intresting- if so they have gone for something close to the book description - sinewy, with a touch of the Great Worm about it - thats a very long tail mind.

Hobbit calendar for 2013 by ALan lee and John howe. Another glimps of Smaug.

I believe those are all older pieces of art but I would not be at all surprised if Smaug in the movies is similar to Lee and/or Howe's previous portrayals of him.

I have definetly seen at least some of the calendar pictures before- but not the t-shirt version of Smaug- although looking at it and comparing it to the calendar the head is very similar, sort of arrow shaped- only the length of the tail seems to have changed and that could just be to accomodate the design of the logo.
