Re: Tales of Home [9]
{{ I did fine with a mobile and a crappy camera for donkeys Az, and if I manage to take a half decent picture now with a decent camera is mainly using what I learned on the old ones. So keep snapping Az. And its good to see different places anyway, who cares about resolution or whatever, nice picture is a nice picture }}

Re: Tales of Home [9]
That's the key Petty! Unless you are shooting for a living, all you need is a picture that you like!!!
Re: Tales of Home [9]
{{ If it weren't for the particular set of circumstances that led too me ending up with Naguals camera I'd still be happily snapping away as before on my old one and still posting them. I enjoy taking pictures, trying to frame a shot, capturing a moment in time and that in itself has always been enough regardless of equipment.
Same as I'll draw with a crappy hb pencil or a biro if that's all available even if I could make something more professional looking with a full set of expensive artists pencils, for me that's not the point- enjoying it is. }}

Yeah when I see what others accomplish compared to me with the same camera phone in the same circumstance I appreciate that "capturing a shot" is more about the careful stalking than just taking a lucky shot.

I'm not one who really does that kind of thing. Stick'em up on facebook unless you've got hundreds of them.
For this site the built-in srvimg does pretty well, though limited space. The old ones get pushed out by the new but I've found it's good for over a year at the rate I post images.

cheers Petty, I uploaded a photo and it seemed simple enough, but how do you get the photo to show on here, I copied the link and put it into the 'insert a link thing on here but it didn't work, it just posted a link and not a photo. maybe I did it wrong.

{{ Go to the link, click the upload button, find your picture on your computer and select it, and once its uploaded underneath you'll see a bunch of options in a drop-down menu for different sorts of links you can make to it, you want the one for 'BBCode full link.' Pick that and copy the link that appear by clicking the box next to it marked 'copy'. You can also open the image in a new tab and all the options will be below it, just click where it says 'embedded codes', handy sometimes if you've uploaded multiple images.
Once you've got that you dont need to put it in the insert a link thing, just paste it straight into your post like this - }}

Re: Tales of Home [9]
Gorgeous pics, those Iris look lovely. My favourite gardens are the more 'natural' type where plants can just wander how they like, not set out in straight lines like soldiers on parade.

It's New York City, you have have to work hard to avoid such juxtapositions.

Re: Tales of Home [9]
What works best is if you actually have an eye for composition. I sent these pictures to my (whatever you call her not) gf. She's been living right next to the park about 3/4 of a mile from this spot for years, I live 3 miles from this spot, but she had to ask ME where it was (dang nimnod! The building gives it away ). So I told her and off she scampers the next day (with perfect sunlight of course) and takes THIS:
Looks like a damn postcard.

Re: Tales of Home [9]
I only visited once, and it didn't sit that well with me. I assume certain aspects of New York are different by the way you experience it, but I found it somewhat cold, (admittedly it was February) standoffish, offputting, and alienating. I admit that you might have a different experience if you have a sense comfort both with where you are and what to do there that I perhaps lacked at the time. Perhaps there is something under the surface I didn't get too.
I have had experiences of other major cities that interested me far more. An interesting city in my mind is Barcelona, which is so many things at the same time. Gorgeously situated yet polluted, cosmopolitan yet surounded by small neighborhoods that function like their own microcosmos, historic yet in part touristic to rival Venice.
If you know where to go off the tourist trail, Barcelona is probably one of the most vibrant and interesting cities in the world. If you follow the tourist trail, you'll see gorgeous architectoral areas, but not a real city, and probably as many germans as catalans.
