Re: Tales of Home [8]
It's usually easier to find your way around if you DON'T drive. London's underground system is fabulous. Combine it with a smartphone to find the final destination on your way out and you're all set. Or a printed out google map of the immediate vicinity.

Re: Tales of Home [8]
{{Ive never been in London- dont know anything beyond touristy stuff- at this point dont even know what bit we are staying in- I probably should find out. Details will be forthcoming nearer to the time.
Malick- dont sweat it, Id hate to make anyone feel uncomfortable or out their personal zone. It'd be great to meet up with anyone who can make it and wants to- but hey if none of us are in London much we can always go on a Tower tour or something so we bunch of social misfits aren't all just sitting staring at each other in a pub wondering who talks first!
Azriel- I was hoping you'd be the tour guide what do you mean you haven't been to London in years!!! And yes, means Ill have to bring up the date of my annual bath too
£6 a pint!!!! (I'll find a homeless Scottish alky get some tips where to find cheap booze! ) }}}

Re: Tales of Home [8]
London is pretty easy to travel round on the Tube. But its massive so decide beforehand what are the major things to visit and then plan the tube rides around that. I think those open top tour buses are a great, if touristy, way of seeing all the sights in one go, although in January you will need a hat and umbrella. You get on and off when you like and you get to see the famous bits all in one day. My favourite bits are Trafalgar Square because of the National Gallery, Soho, Covent garden, then off to Bloomsbury and the V&A museum and the Natural History Museum. Its also nice near the river, Tower Bridge and the docks of Bermondsey. There is so much to do its better just do a couple if you only have one day.

Re: Tales of Home [8]
here's a hint: if you want to get into Westminster Abbey, find out when they are having Anglican mass or whatever they call it. Dress up a bit. There'll be a ring of tourists being held back, but just walk up to the guard and say you are coming to attend the service, you'll get a very polite bow and "anyone is welcome to worship with us" and you'll be let in like a visiting dignitary. Walk very slowly in to see everything, and very slowly out after the service to catch the bits you missed coming in.
Sure, you can going in when there's no service with everyone else, but being let in when the tourists hordes are being held back is a very grand feeling. I picked up this tip from a young lady in a youth hostel. We went together...I was hoping it would lead to more but she bugged out on me after - apparently I had served my purpose as escort and she was done with me.

And as the reporter said at the end, its easier to find out about men than it is about women. Women have been & still are, very brave indeed.

Re: Tales of Home [8]
Interpretations? I just read'em as I see'em. It's like defocussing your eyes to see the big picture. If everyone would just open their minds like I do there would be an end to misunderstandings among peoples and peace would rule the earth. But nobody pays attention to me.
