Thanks Figgy. We've been hustling this last week to hold the erosion in check. Thanks to the "supermoon" we're in the middle of the highest runs of tides of the year (almost 14 feet difference between high and low tide). So far, so good! Thankfully the weather's been cold and clear with gentle sea swells rather than stormy with giant towering breakers...
Here's a recent article with more pictures and numbers for anybody who's interested:

Re: Tales of Home [8]
14 foot difference between high and low tide?! I thought that only happened with the sloshing action in fjords, never realized an ordinary coast would experience that!

Cool article. I would think the Army Corps of Engineers could get involved in this.

I think they'd like to be but it's a funding issue, and since almost all of their resources are deployed on the Atlantic coast, especially after the hurricanes, it's really expensive for them to deploy way out here for what's for them a tiny project. We've asked about piggybacking on other Pacific coast projects if and when they're already in the area. I figure there's no harm in asking.

I guess it does sound impressive in it's way. However there's no pay or benefits, and my phone rings in the middle of the night whenever it rains too hard and people start flooding. For some reason I seem to be drawn to jobs that pay no money and get people angry at me

Newspapers do love to exaggerate! Actually we've only been growing cranberries for 3 generations, but our family's been in this community for 4 generations, since 1890.

You may not receive a wage slip but, you will feel enormous pride if & when you get the help you so obviously desperately need. In such a materialistic world it puts things into perspective & shows you what is really important. Not a stupid handbag or polished nails & perfume, God !

Re: Tales of Home [8]
Not very bad here. Enough that it layered on the road, which I think is only the first or second time this season that that's happened, but probably less than an inch all told. It had pretty much stopped by the afternoon. There's supposed to have been more in Baltimore and further south, though, which is contrary to the overall trend, but I suspect is because it is also a bit further west than where I live.

That's an atmospheric pic Petty. I like that one. We've had some beautiful magical moons lately, cant get them as my camera just doesn't "do" nights.

Must feel good to look at those flowers and realize you've done at least one thing completely right in your life.

That's a Saturday right? I would probably be free to meet up on that day, but I don't think I will-nothing personal I'm still dealing with anxiety/depression issues (not to mention unemployment and train tickets to London are a rip off ) and I don't actually know London very well (been there only three or four times, and those were college trips), for me it would be a bit stressful and a lot of effort just for one day, no offence I like all you guys but I'm just not in the right frame of mind for something like this.
Maybe next year...
If anyone else does meet up, let's see some pics people

Re: Tales of Home [8]
Whereabouts in London do you mean anyway? I know very little about the city and certainly wouldn't be able to find my way round (I don't drive), also 'a drink' may just be that heard horror stories of £6 pints in some corners of London, I'll stick with wetherspoons myself...
