A picture from the local newspaper of the place where I grew up. Not the best quality, but still nice enough

Re: Tales of Home [7]
Gorgeous, Ringo. Reminds me a little of the area where my dad's family is from, though that's being steadily suburbanized now.
Re: Tales of Home [7]
{{Cracking view Ringo, reminds me very much of here in fact! And you have trees- does that make you a soft southerner by Fjordian standards?! }}}

Re: Tales of Home [7]
I'm from central Fjordia, but any northerner would say "soft southerner" I miss trees, though - there are none where I live now, and if you grew up in the woods, that will never feel right. It's one of the reasons the first few chapters in FotR have become my favourites - I get homesick (in a good way) when I read them

Wow, Ringo! Brought up in the woods can only mean you were brought up by wolves. There can be no other logical explanation. That's pretty cool.
And Nora, you were brought up by the sea, which means you must be half ice maiden and half mermaid. There is no other practical possibility. That's pretty cool, too.
Forumshirans always have such interesting back stories: especially Fjordianlandian immigrants!

Very beautiful. For some reason I never think about ferns when I visualize Scotland.

Re: Tales of Home [7]
Great pictures, Petty! I'm sometimes surprised by how similar parts of Britain look to the East Coast of the US.
Re: Tales of Home [7]
I'm heading off on a camping trip today. Hope I have better luck....
When I get back, I've got a project where I'll need to do some crude video editing (basically just cutting 10-15 sec interesting bits out of stuff from my camera and pasting them together). Is there a free utility without too many bells and whistles that anybody can recommend for this? The more stone-age the better!

I once sat beside someone as moral support as he edited together a number of videos on PC. Not sure what his base software was, but every time he wanted to do something different he googled, downloaded for free, did his thing and moved on. It was a real learning experience as to what can be done by sheer force of will rather than obsessing over reading manuals etc.

Hope you have a fun (and relatively dry) time, Dave!
From what I recall of my time on Windows, Windows Movie Maker was pretty straightforward and serviceable. I've never done much in the way of video editing, though.
Re: Tales of Home [7]
Enjoy your trip Dave Go well.
