Ah, the old "She's cleaning her own bathroom, she's definitely over 18." logic.

Re: Tales of Home [7]
here our credit cards/visa card etc. has a picture and social security number on it. works as ID if you don't have a driver's license (like me)Eldorion wrote:Simulpost with Petty.
You guys have driver's licenses with photographs on them, do you not? That's the extent of photo ID for most Americans.
Alcohol enforcement used to be a lot more lax here, too. My dad tells stories sometimes about when he arrived at college (aged 17, when the drinking age was 18) and the university parked a tanker truck full of beer in the parking lot during orientation and let everyone have as much as they wanted.
edit: but i am 15 in the picture and look like a boy so i should really get a new one..

hahah this ^halfwise wrote:malickfan wrote:
I'm don't want you to perceive this as an anti american rant (love you guys for the most part ...even if your politics baffles me most of the time ), but you can vote, own a house, drive, smoke marjuana, pay taxes and buy and shoot a shotgun at age 18 can't you? Yet you aren't judged mature enough to have a few quiet pints/fall down in you own cider induced sick in the park...
I think the fact that you can vote, drive, smoke, and buy a shotgun are awfully good reasons to not allow an 18 year old to drink....
Re: Tales of Home [7]
also. a not-so-wise friend of mine told me that if you're ever buying alcohol (the heavy 40-60% stuff that you need to be 20 to buy) for you 17 year old little brother, don't bring him with you, let him pick out stuff, carry thing, pick things directly from the shelves and be careful not to fill the cart with goods and definitely ! don't pay it all in cash. obviously they id'ed him and his brother who sweated out a "i forgot mine home". the odd thing is it actually worked, but oh lord that is so fucking not legal and i bet his pulse was frantic.
Re: Tales of Home [7]
God, people get so stressed out about alcohol.
I went to New York when I was 19, that was.. weird.
I still managed to get prepostorously drunk and.. nevermind.

Re: Tales of Home [7]
Sounds like the weekend I've got coming up. (And I'm still hung over from yesterday. (Help!))

Yeah, as long as it's social it can't really be a bad thing. (Or at least that's what I tend to believe.)

Not that it's my place to ask, but how on earth did you end up having a naschpiel in a sauna?

Was that sign actually put up by the gummint?
That must have been a fun committee meeting.
