Re: Doctor Who [12]
What are "punters"? Do they move boats around with long sticks?
Urban Dictionary says that it means "a customer, or someone who visits brothels/bets on horse races". That must be it.

Re: Doctor Who [12]
I'd like to see a new male companion, two of my favourite companions were male- Jamie and Rory. And Jamie is still the longest serving companion to the Doctor ever. Even if he can only remember the first adventure then nothing more (yea the Donna tragic memory wipe thing was done first way back in the 2nd Doctor era- but with a lot less wailing and gnashing of teeth!).
But its not entirely up to Moffat- he is showrunner but he is not the last word- thats the BBC execs- its them Moffat would have to persuade that dropping the male Doctor/female Companion dynamic is a good idea.

I didn't say it wasn't great acting- Im a Donna fan remember?
But compared to the mentality of first time this story device was used to end a companions time on the show, the post war years, stoicism, grin and bear it, chin up deal with what your dealt, the millennium version is interestingly way, way more emotionally indulgent by comparison.
' which happens a lot in Moffats version of Doctor Who. '
Sadly I seem to have missed that episode.

Re: Doctor Who [12]
Its emotionally indulgent in comparison to the first time- where the emotion is certainly there, but its the trembly lip stoic sort.
I just find the comparison in times and how people react to be interesting. Given is the same show and essentially the same premise.
If the female companion of the time had reacted as Donna does I suspect the audience then would have been put off, great performance or not, by her 'hysterics'.
And if the 2nd Doctor had dealt with the situation emotionally as 10 does I think that would be seen as a bit suspect, bit light on his loafers as it were.
Odd how perception change like that.

What are these short videos that keep popping up in here? Shorts made independently of the show? Or fan-mish-mash edits?
I'd watch them to find out, but I need to avoid spoilers for this season!

The Tennant and Atkinson ones are perfectly safe to watch- they were made years ago for Comic Relief.
The others are fan vids/tributes and should be considered highly spoilery.

Re: Doctor Who [12]
There's a BBCiplayer mini prog thing which basically plugs programs on the iplayer- a BBC celeb comes on and talks with Frank Skinner about their current top 3 iplayer picks.
The last one here is Who, which of course Skinner was in last series and is a life long fan of- its at 14 minutes in, and gord bless Skinner, he's choking back the tears just talking about it!

Well I thought that was great (if a bit rushed with underdeveloped supporting chracters)
I think Clara's death was obvious halfway through the episode, but I'm not entirely convinced this is the last we'll see of her this series.
Last weeks terrible episode aside I think this is going to end up being my favourite series so far
