Not sure if anyone will like this but the wife and I went out for date night last night and seen this guy. We actually go see him every year around this time of year and he is a riot. This is just a fun song

Yeah, it's a simple tune. But for me as a songwriter it's a bit like. Pop love song? Oh, someone already perfected that. Moves on to next thing..

And often making simple things great is what's really difficult.

Yeah I agree about the formula, as a songwriter I have the philosophy that there is nothing new out there, somewhere at sometime someone has already written the perfect love song, rock song, country song, whatever, they've all been done before. I just try and put a piece of my soul into what I write and hope that it touches someone in just a little bit different way than something that's been done before.

I've gotten to the point where I think you just have to write, and then don't judge your output. Or try not to. Leave that to others. Though maybe that's more on a personal level, as I'm my own worst critic. The odd thing is, for me anyway, I will write something and think it just a throwaway pointless thing, and then listening back to it a week laterI'll discover it's the best thing I've written in a while.

Ah, what am I trying to say. I think judging your own output can be dangerous. Whether for originality or quality. You just have to write.. and pray..

I just realized, it's pretty much the perfect song.. to play for someone.. special.. I probably first heard it 8 years ago, and I just realized.

I was never a huge Gene Clark fan, but you really can't fault his songwriting.

I'm rather underwhelmed the Byrds' song. It's sort of there and gets the job done, but it doesn't catch you the way 'Your Song' by Elton John does, for example. Not sure why that particular song by the Byrds intimidated you, Blue. I think you should aim for a more distinctive voice.

"I meet so many people, I feel I don't know. But I felt so close to you, when you said hello."

Idk. As pointless love song lyrics go, they strike pretty much at the heart of the matter for me.

Then again it should be said that the process of songwriting for me is a constant struggle of intimidation, self deprication and self doubt. So, perhaps it's more me than anything else.
