Just pulled an unscheduled all nighter! I'm going to pay for that tomorrow/today Anyway the reason being I got my hands on the blueray of BoFA and have just finished editing.
I wasn't happy with some of the diting in my purist cut of DOS and as it and BoFA are merged into a single film I redid it too.

Final running time for Dos/BofA (taken from the DosEE and theatrical BOFA with a combined running time, minus end credits, of 4 hours 7 minutes) is 2 hours 14 minutes.
So basically half of these films were completely pointless crap utterly unnecessary to telling the story of The Hobbit.

So if you did want to watch all three as one film then the entire running time or the purist edits would be about 3 hours 40 minutes long. Which is doable.
As it stands its two films of 1hr.20 and 2hr.14 respectively.

Still got some minor tweaking to do, mainly sound related, and will need to watch the entire thing back to make sure the pacing sits right throughout before I upload it, but expect it to be available within the next week all going to plan.

ps- thing I noticed whilst editing this time- at the very end when it segues into FotR and we hear the dialogue from that film Gandalf says "111 years old, who would have believed it" but they then fudge the next line in the sound so you cant make it out- the fudged inaudible line is- "you haven't changed a day".

Well things to look forward too include a cameo from Legolas and Tauriel at the appropriate place (ie elvenking) and never seen again. I kill Alfred off, and Thorin witnesses the death of both his kin, though obviously I still couldn't entirely fix that one to how they should die- defending Thorins fallen body.
Bard kills Smaug properly without ripping half his sons face off in the process (no son present in fact) and he shoots Smaug with a proper arrow.
But thing I am proudest of is managing to more or less restore Bilbo's character arc from the book.
So Thorin is prideful, arrogant,greedy and crabbit throughout and not some tragic hero and the dwarves turn to Bilbo from the barrels onwards- and there is no dragon sickness- as in no weird malady that can just be shaken off- Thorin is a dick in my version from the start like he should be.
Its amazing what just cutting certain bits, a line or two here and there, a look, and emphasising others can achieve in changing characters apparent motivations in a scene.
And of course over all the spectacle is toned down to something more reasonable whilst still providing enough eye candy. No were worms either or remote control trolls or whatever the hell they were supposed to be.

In short its actually watchable now if you are a fan of the book without seeming like someone deliberately trying to offended Tolkien and all his fans. Still not what it should be, but its a hell of a lot closer and its at least obviously Bilbo's tale again.
I think you will enjoy it Ringdrotten, or at least more so than the official versions (not that thats saying much).

I am surprised you found 2 hours worth keeping. It would have been the length of a trailer if I had edited it I take my hat off for you trying though.

Well thats 2 hours out of two films combined- BoFA makes up just under an hour of that material.
In fact thats about the mix of all three films- roughly half the running time is given over to Bilbo's story based (often loosely or with changed meaning) on the book, and the other half of each film has nothing to do with Bilbo or his story and is all about their own additions and plot lines. It pretty much a 50/50 split in each film regards running time and subject matter.

I think I actually surprised myself this time, as I have to admit when I first watched BoFA, besides the expected crabbit horror at the treatment of the source, I was scratching my head as to how it could be in any way salvaged.

The bits that look like gaps aren't actually (the first big one at about 30 minutes on the timeline)- its just where there are so many cuts close together it doesn't show up at the zoomed out magnification- heres the gap at 30 minutes closer up (its actually the barrel sequence)-

Uploading the edit now to the drive- its only the 480 resolution version as I wanted people to have a look at it and make any comments whilst I still have the bits in the editor.
If there are no suggestions for changes I will then upload the full HD version (but that will take a few days to upload as its about 7 and a half gig )

I hate uploading- 83% and only taken it 8 hours so far

I was able to download THStandard at 812 MB on 11/28/14 (or 28/11/14 if you prefer).
Will this be about the same size?
If it is and I get lucky I might be able to download this one as well.
I'd really like to see what you've done with PJ's mess.

Its a bit larger (being longer) by about a third coming in at 1.2 gig.
