Hi Norc- your late!!!
Couple of nice pictures taken by friends.
Glencoe (famously the location of the massacre of the McDonalds by the Campbells- an infamous and legendary event as it broke the Highland Codes of Conduct as the Campbells were invited to stay as guests, Its also used all th etime for filming locations- so you might recognise it from anything from Highlander (battle of the Frasers v Macleods) through to Bonds childhood home in Skyfall)
Folksong to give some mood to the place-
And this sunrise near Dumbarton Castle, and I am assured no colouring tampering, it really was this colour-

Since yesterday the winds here have been vicious. Trees have been swung back & forth like a deranged pendulum. The sounds are making my ears throb now & it doesnt look like dissipating anytime soon

Nice, petty - and nice song, I love The Corries. I just got an idea for a magic trip - hiking in Scotland with The Corries playing on the iPod

Aye - not one kilted figure. Can you you ever imagine a Scottish landscape without one kilt? Unkilted, I mean.. Dream on - I guess...

Re: Tales of Home [6]
I took some snaps while I was out earlier- I said elsewhere that there was a big NATO exercise going on right now, I missed most of the fleet of ships but got these pictures anyway-
Hard to see but those dots on the horizon are a variety of Navy vessels heading out into open sea-
These have nothing to do with NATO ships but I just liked them- this is looking across to the Isle of Bute, and beyond it the mountains on the island of Arran, still complete with snow, usually they are just a faded blue shape on the horizon but the light was just right by luck to actually show quite a lot of detail given the distance-
And last and least- a Tyrant smoking on the grass!

Ha ha, you nutter I really like the "dots going out to sea" pic, emphasizes the vast amount of water up there

Re: Tales of Home [6]
Yeah theres a lot water- not counting the huge amount that falls out the sky!
Although what I do find worrying is that innocuous looking sub has onboard it enough firepower to reduce everything you can see in those pictures- grass, trees, buildings and everyone who lives there, to a radioactive charcoal hell for a few thousand years.

Re: Tales of Home [6]
Yeah, and it would happen in a blinding flash, so probably the very last thing you'd be aware of would be your eyes melting in their sockets- the first time you realize this, aged about ten, lying in bed one dark night, listening to the tannoy float across the water and the constant hum of the launchers going back and forth to the pier, it tends to keep you awake a bit.
And despite the US Navy no longer being here it changes nothing, all the UK nuclear facilities are here.
And we have refueling stations in lochs dotted about here that allied shipping use.
Quite a few of the hills around here are hollow (I've actually been inside one when I was a kid- you know those huge underground lairs Bond villains have, where you have to get about on a little cart? Like that but vaster) and lord alone knows whats in them. So knowing it could possibly go foom at any given moment is just sort of the background to living here.

Have fun, Norc! It's a long way from Tromso!
There are a lot of good, interesting people, but there's a lot of petty crime too. When i was there, there were whole streets of shops selling second-hand goods of questionable history for very cheap.
I "lost" a camera, and was able to replace it in one of these shady little shops for 1/4 of what it should have cost. So no harm, right?
So have fun, keep your wits about you at all times, especially after dark and in crowds, and remember: whatever happens, it's all part of the adventure!
