Re: Tales of Home [6]
Yeah, you have to have the 'pop' kind of toaster, that will automatically pop them out before burned. Next up: toaster strudels. Much juicier.

Americans have far more selection than us in UK, the stuff I see on Ebay alone. This country is so boring & complacent, no fooking imagination !

Re: Tales of Home [6]
OMG, I'm so excited you finally get to try Pop-Tarts, Norc! The all chocolate ones are one of my favorite flavors, along with blueberry and chocolate chip. You are supposed to put them in a toaster to warm them up although I usually eat them cold and have done so for years. Initially this was just a coincidence thing (since I eat them mainly for convenience and am often running late in the morning, so I'd just grab a pouch and eat them while walking to class, or more recently while in the car). But it's been so long now since I've eaten a warm Pop-Tart I think it'd be a really weird experience.
They do go really well with milk, I agree. Not having anything to drink with them always makes me extremely thirsty.

The icing doesn't really melt from toaster level heat in my experience so stickiness shouldn't be a problem.
Re: Tales of Home [6]
Yep, this is advanced 20th century food technology, Norc. If the instructions say put it in the toaster, you should bloody well trust that they've laced the frosting with space age digestible titanium and put them in the toaster.
Do you have more than just the one packet? Hopefully your friend hooked you up with a box of them.

Re: Tales of Home [6]
The funny thing is that the foil pouch does melt, as my brother discovered ages ago when we were on a Cub Scout camping trip and he tried warming up an entire pouch over the fire. So the icing has a higher melting point than the foil/plastic/whatever the Pop-Tarts are contained in.
Re: Tales of Home [6]
Yay Norc!
For simplicity's sake, I'd recommend microwaving them for approximately 10 to 15 seconds.

Re: Tales of Home [6]
How can you mess up cooking pop tarts? They are designed for Americans to eat- see exhibit Eldo who as an American cant even wait for the cooking bit and just eats 'em raw - thy are idiot proof (Ie American proof in Euro-lingo )
Even I can manage to heat up a pop tart and I'm a drunken incompetent in a kitchen, and everywhere else too obviously
Going to the MN Renaissance festival on Sunday.- Bungo
I have to admit to finding these things a bit weird (And which Renaissance, no one ever specifies! ) Nevertheless have a great time Bungo, and remember to bring us back some palantir snaps. I trust as our Mayor you have an honourary role in proceedings

Sounds fun; hope you enjoy yourself bungo! I used to go to the MD Renaissance Fair every year and while I don't go so frequently now, it's still a fun time when I make it there.

I've only ever been to the one, but it's always been focused on the English Renaissance (specifically the Tudors; there are actors portraying Henry VIII and various other figures of his era every year). But it's not a living history museum or anything. The theme of old-timey-ness is taken seriously and does pervade every aspect of the fair, especially crafts shops and performers, but there are anachronisms galore and the idea of fun (and, for a lot of people, getting drunk and potentially having sex) reign supreme.

yeah, they can be fun. Basically a theme park with some occasional education thrown in. It really is about cheeky fun.

I've only been once, and that was nearly twenty years ago. Hoping to see some jousting.

The jousting is always one of my favorite parts, though it's not quite as exciting as it was when I was eight.

Pretty accurate description. But it's sweet, cardboard flavored lava.

Re: Tales of Home [6]
Long day. Got way too much sun burn, but had a lot of fun at the Ren Fest. Also visited Minnesota's largest candy store.
Had a pretty good day. Back to work early tomorrow, maybe post some pics from today tomorrow night. Also realized I haven't posted any pics from my vacation. Nothing terribly interesting, but it's fun to share still.
