Re: Tales of Home [6]
We had 9 inches of rain in 12 hours and there's no place for the water to go. Roads underwater or washing away entirely, toilets won't flush, mud slides blocking roads. Good for the ducks though!

Re: Tales of Home [6]
Yeah- I filmed just outside my house last night- was too dark to really see anything but I was more trying to capture the sound- the roar of the wind in the trees on the hill above the golf course was quite something- a very intimidating sound.

Re: Tales of Home [6]
Here for some reason it gets warm enough for any downpour to come as rain, and then cold enough for said rain to freeze making the roads into ice rinks when the rain stops.
It would be nice if the weather could decide on what it wants to be. Some snow would be nice too, while I'm asking.

Well, we did get some snow. (A hell of a lot of it actually.)
Who knows, maybe asking works.

After several days of single digit or negative temperatures, 25 degrees F feels like shorts weather.

We took a bit of a hammering during the night down here in the South but, nothing as bad as Pettyland !!! I saw the weather reports for the top end of Scotshobbitland & it was nasty to say the least !

What?! Well, that's obviously ridiculous.
Interesting that you should feel that way. I guess winter can be a bit harsher on the other side of the Atlantic where you don't have the gulf stream.

Re: Tales of Home [6]
I grew up near Buffalo NY where winters and snow accumulation are legendary... Nothing like having 4 to 6 feet of snow on the ground, and I'm not even talking about drifted snow yet. Not to mention 20 degrees below freezing. To hell with that crazy crap, I'll stick to minimum 30 degrees, hardly any snow, and when it does snow it's gone 2 hours later. Not 2 months later. Google winter or snow in Buffalo and you'll see what I mean. LOL

Re: Tales of Home [6]
Oh, we do have proper winters here. Though it normally only gets that cold for shorter periods.
I love the whole snow and winter thing. Although.. I mostly talked about it so much as someone found it so annoying.

Re: Tales of Home [6]
I love the look of snow, I love the silence, the smell, the crunchy sound as you walk on it. But, I also like being indoors, heating chonking away & watching the world go by. Behind me is an area of woods & forests called 'The Downs' & when it snows enough everyone goes up there with anything that will slide & come sledging or tobogganing down. Snowmen pop up all over the place & the atmosphere is different.

Keep in mind though that Buffalo is on the same latitude as Corsica. You're right about the Gulf stream screwing us over here in North America.
Re: Tales of Home [6]
Ah, that is quite a difference. I get what you guys are saying. It's a different sort of cold. We get that in certain parts of Norway too, like the inland of the very north of the country. Where cold winds sieves in from Russia, pushing back the positive effects of the gulf stream. I think temperatures in below -40 celsius are completely common there. Brrr.. I get cold even thinking about it.

Negative 20 was enough for me... I hate to even imagine -40

Their party trick is taking a scolding cup of coffe outside, throwing it in the air and watching it freeze before it hits the ground.

Re: Tales of Home [6]
I love the effects of a snowfall, but in the city it melts too fast and turns into gray slush almost immediately. I'd prefer longer, colder winters to what we normally get. We get a lot of reasonably warm pleasant weather, but that's counter balanced by the in-between crap which just ends up ugly and annoying.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. Particularily in the big city it just gets really dirty when snow melts. Still.. winter without snow feels rather pointless to me. Like.. something without something. *Insert relevant metaphore.*

I've always thought that the snow makes the cold worth it. I'm not quite as positive about snow now that I have to drive in it, but it does suck not to get even a single decent snowfall all season.
