@ the PJ poster
And good point about the pores thing. That is pretty bizarre.
My guess is that it's just an easy way to have a large series of posters to help build hype before the release of the trailer, while will likely be accompanied by the "official" final poster. They did something similar for AUJ.

Re: Waiting for 'The Battle of the Five Armies' [2]
Wider version of the Bilbo poster, seems PJ has added armoured trolls to the battle and judging from the flaming missiles the goblins have brought some sort of siege equipment on their march!
Also is it just me or is the way they have done the background, with the black smoke, the mountain, the besieged walls, more reminiscent of Mordor and LotR's than TH?

In regards to the carrot in the PJ poster: Third time pays for all. If he pulls the carrot gag one more time I will send hound in Valinor after him
I thought Thranduil looked ok, Thorin wasn't bad either. I get that the PJ poster is supposed to be funny, but to me it screams "hehe look I'm drawing even more attention to myself tehe"

How can you tell that the trolls are armoured?
And also, it would appear that perhaps the battle will turn into some kind of siege of Dale.

Thank Eru that's a fake!
My guess is that they meet up in Dale somehow. After Lake town gets burnt to a crisp they go there, run into Thrandy who's going to the mountain and then there are a billion different fight sequences

How can you tell that the trolls are armoured?- Forest
Actually I dont think they are now I have had a chance for a closer look (see below) I initially mistook the spike that is the tip of a spear at the shoulder of the righthand troll for a spiky bit of armour.
Close up of the trolls, brightened up-
Dwarves arriving on ridge mimicking the arrival of the Rohirrim?
And the fighting on the wall- just what are the thing above all the armies heads that look like baloons? Pretty sure even PJ wont have dwarves arriving with balloons, the goats are bad enough. Bats? They dont look much like bats? Unless the bats have been eating a lot lately and got a bit round of belly.

A volley of slingstones?
...Hail?
.....Perhaps the dwarves have large buzzing flies that follow them everywhere.
The orcish troops in the foreground seem to have similar objects floating above their heads.
For example, what are those large black objects to be seen at Bilbo's elbows?

Re: Waiting for 'The Battle of the Five Armies' [2]
I thought sling shot of some sort too, but the armies on either side dont quite look like the same armies, Im pretty sure the left hand one is the dwarves arriving.
But the people fighting on the right dont seem to be. The attire looks somewhat different. But both have the 'flies' buzzing above them.

Re: Waiting for 'The Battle of the Five Armies' [2]
Im with petty on this in that its more like LOTRs. Its certainly not Hobbitish by any means, there's no 'feel' to it that its Hobbit wise. Maybe those large flecks are flying embers ? Oh the whole thing is fooking stupid Ive much more interesting things to look forward to than this shower of shit ! Vikingesque long ships, his blade pointing unshaken, the look on his face, the look on Leggy's face, Its a tie in to LOTRs & I dont like it. Two separate stories, two separate films meshed & interwoven as one long story, yuk ! BLAH !

Azog swaps fork for dinner knife- Bungo
Given it seems to go right through and out the other side of his arm, does this mean he ripped the toasting fork out, and then shoved that one in, pushing it right through the back of his own arm?
And yet more LotR's reminiscing too- big orc standing on a rock whilst an army marches by.
Whatsit say precioussssss ?- Azriel
Im no expert (in anything) but I'm guessing "Beware Crap!"

It's Russian (the website in very fine grey print is hobbit-3.ru), but I have no idea what it says.
Edit: by copying and pasting the Cyrillic letters from Wikipedia into Google Translate, I figured out that the tagline on the top reads "DECISIVE BATTLE". (Proof)
Re: Waiting for 'The Battle of the Five Armies' [2]
Thanks Eldo, ( clever old you ) On that poster I just zoomed out & its worse than if I had not ! Its the worst one Ive seen so far ! and it smacks of TTT's where the big Orc raises his arm & roars as hes standing on a rock, Its like the team are clutching at straws, any straws. Its awful

Re: Waiting for 'The Battle of the Five Armies' [2]
Ayup...
I get a sense that the posters are some kind of nod to the 'stars' posters of the thirties and forties. King kong and all that. If you look in any Movie Almanack books, you'll see pics of Jimmy Stewart stewart Grainger and Leslie Howard like that. And any other female film star you can name. What makes me giggle is the Gandalf and Galadriel poster. WTF is SHE doing ? Maybe his cage in Dol Guldur is too tuff to break out of and the strength of a good woman was needed ?

Re: Waiting for 'The Battle of the Five Armies' [2]
Right, well, so, Ive just got back from watching "Dracula untold story" at the cinema. And of course you have to sit thru half a million adverts & trailers *yawn* then, it happened, a trailer for bloody BOTFAs, No, God, No ! It made me squirm. A troup of armoured Elves standing to attention Ala helms Deep style, Bard shouting something along the lines of "do you want war or peace" (?) Thrandy with sword in hand scouring snow covered ruins, a go kart pulled by anything from Rudolph the red nose reindeer to 'I dont know what'! bare footed & dress tattered Galadriel ( could have been Legolas ) you only saw the feet, prostraight Gandy, Orcs by the 1000s just like Helms Deep, it was AWFUL !! And the bloody song that Pippin sang from LOTRs was being sung ! purlease ! then at the end of this abominable trash we get..........the eye ! ( & its momentary Yarrrgh sound !) No, no, no !! All the scenes in that fook awful trailer were dark & grey & menacing, full of war & all meant to lead up to LOTRs. all geared to join the dots & connect up once again I couldnt stand the trailer let along think about the film ! Nothing on this Earth will induce me to go see it.
On a separate note, Luke "fooking hell !" Evans is Gworgeous as Dracula ! I was gonna say " to die for" but seemed silly being its a Dracula film but "ding dong" he IS yummy !

That sums up the entire production from the writing down. The Hobbit was never intended to be a brooding epic. It was a whimsical adventure that they butchered into some strange experiment; the subject? Our beloved nostalgia.
