- Spoiler:
- Cover up my bruises and head over to the police station for an update on the case - whatever they can tell me will be of great value
(a rather boring one this time, but it's all I've got time for right now and I'm sure you're eager to update the game - my next one will be a little more interesting, I hope )

Re: Roll to Dodge!
It would be nice to update, but the game is currently drifting through the doldrums.
Mrs. Figg keeps using Spoiler boxes incorrectly and confusing me and Petty has yet to update because he's been busy lately.
oh well.

Patient young Forest! Patience! Some of us need to get our buckie levels right before deciding our next move.

Re: Roll to Dodge!
Can I just reiterate for those who may have missed it: you could just report to the police station (as you were meant to the first day you arrived) as your action for this morning.
It's not that hard!

Re: Roll to Dodge!
I don't know what to do!
Mrs. Figg started it all off and now Azriel as well, instead of putting up an action of some kind that they want to do, is simply writing down what their character does for the particular time of day!
(Well, Azriel is mostly alright on that score; she's like a halfway point between the two standards.)
But otherwise it's like we're on two different pages about this, and it's troubling for me as all I want to do is manage the game in a lively and entertaining fashion, enjoying whatever strange requests you put in and detailing the results with disastrous or intriguing results.
If what I actually have to do is read what your character did for that time of day, how it went, and what the results were, then I'm left with nothing to do at all! Unless I wish to simply ignore whatever you say happened and colour in the details I want to have happened; and that is not what I want to do in the least, as I feel bad about railroading over your contributions.
Anyway, I'm going to update, be done in an hour (or longer who knows).

Re: Roll to Dodge!
Round 4
Thursday Morning:
Here's the map of the area again, for reference:
For Ringo and Marigold Only!
Thursday Morning:
- Mr. Crumblebuckie Only:
- [1] After a fine breakfast of sausage and eggs on toast with a side of oatmeal you enjoyed with the enigmatic Mr. Drotts, you slip out the back of the Inn and walk briskly past a row of two-story townhouses and up the lane to the police station. As you near the old brick-building you catch a glimpse of something black through the hedge across the street. It is only in the corner of your eye for a moment before it disappears, but when you climb over the hedge at the gate a figure in strange dark clothes springs up from the ditch and sprints away over the open grassland outside of town.
You give chase, calling out that you are a policeman, and your pleasantly full stomach gurgles unhappily at the sudden exercise. (That fourth sausage was a mistake! )
The early-morning sun is in your eyes, the figure is swift and spry, and you lose them by the time you both reach an enormous oak tree bordering a country lane. It is too much for you; you are extravagantly sick and some of it lands on your shoes.
- Lady Rose Only:
- I wake up with a headache and a mouth feeling as caked in slobber as the inside of Pettys kilt. I take an aspirin and have a nice cup of tea and some toast, then finding I need to go to the loo I go in search of one but alas I am still in the cellar and so I delicately defecate into a bag of salt n onion crisps. feeling much refreshed I clamber up some wooden stairs and through a trap door into the pub. I almost trip over something lying prone in the gloom. Its Petty in a drunken stupor. I give him an tentative kick in the gorbals and he grunts and mutters in his slumbers and twitches the enormous Donkey ears sprouting from his head. yes dear reader. Donkey ears. During the night a fairy has sprinkled fairy juice on him.
Amid all this madness, you realize that you haven't seen so much as a whisker of your friend, Betty Brightwater, since you both arrived the day before.
- Ringo Only:
- [10] You feel very well this morning. There are some brief showers early on, and you wake to the drumming of rain on the roof. You spend the first half hour applying some light makeup over your bruises. You can barely see them now.
The weather clears however, and after a pleasant breakfast with Mr. Crumblebuckie and Marigold Scroggins (you use a clean boot with large treads to at least give your toast the shape of a waffle) you slip out the door. You make your way singly to the station, so as to avoid detection.
At the station you very nearly walk into Mr. Smith from the day before. He doesn't see you, (thankfully!) and you enter and introduce yourself to the constable on duty, a Mr. Broadleaf. He is welcoming and calls the Sergeant, a Mr. Baines, out to meet you. He is greatly relieved to find that at least one of the detectives has arrived in town and relates the details of the murder! (You will find the details, as related to you, on this page) Partway through his explanation Marigold Scroggins arrives and he, rather flustered, must start all over again.
It turns out that three regular policeman have been sent up from London to act as guards at Braxton Hall. Mr. Baines will be escorting them to the Hall tomorrow afternoon if you and Ms. Scroggins wish to join him, he relates to you. You get the feeling that Mr. Baines is not overly familiar with how to handle murder investigations and is rather out of his depth...
- Marigold Scroggins Only:
- In response to your earlier post!
After a reasonably decent sleep, a change of clothes,I write to my cousin in the Met asking him for advice, am now more determined to go back but will question every person I meet
However, since you also mentioned going to the police station, you shall accompany the enigmatic Mr. Ringo Drotts as that is where he is headed as well.
[8] You wait several minutes at the Inn, and then follow Ringo out the back door and up the street to the Police Station. You don't see Mr. Petty anywhere, even though he had left before you, but the constable at the station (a friendly young man who you can't help but flirt with a little bit; his name is Peter) escorts you to the back office where the Sergeant, Mr. Baines, is detailing the events of the murder to Ringo. (You can find the murder details on this page.)
You leave before Ringo and the Sergeant quite finish, and send off a letter via the quick post to your brother in the Metropolitan. He should respond within the next two days.
Here's the map of the area again, for reference:
- Buningca-haye:
For Ringo and Marigold Only!
- Police Report of the Murder:
- Police Report Concerning the Murder of Ashby Duchesne, as explained to you by Sergeant Baines of Buningca-haye
"Well," the Sergeant continues, "when we arrived at the Hall Friday night of last week, the 7th, around 9 o'clock it was, the entire staff was gathered in the front hall of the house. They were a white-faced and scared looking bunch, especially that butler. He was trembling like a leaf and I do believe was nearly running a fever with the shock of it all.
Arabella Duchesne, that is Duchesne-Calder, I should say, was out of town that day; in fact she had been for the last two days and only came back that following morning. And so the only Duchesne on the property that day had been the gentleman himself.
Well anyway, once we arrived at the Hall the butler met us and we took over operations. The body was still around back of the house (where the servants had found it and come) and so it was our first concern. I, and the Constable, and the butler went around back and made notes of the position and what other details we could gather at the time.
Then we gathered the poor man's remains in some blankets and... well we..." and here he blushed, "used a wheelbarrow to move the body as he was a bit too heavy for the three of us, especially with the butler in such a state, and brought him around to the carriage. Then we did our best to calm down the staff and interviewed them in groups relative to their station. This took well into the early hours of the morning and the dreadful circumstances were quite the strain on all of us. I'm that relieved you lot of detectives have come up from London to take things over, I can tell you!" The sergeant hands you a copy of the notes, that has been scrawled down onto a page of a notepad, taken concerning the body and escorts you outside again. "Goodluck!" He calls after you, and you shush him as he has drawn the attention of an old lady walking past. He cringes and ducks back inside with an expression of relief on his face.
Note (Ringo Drotts has this in his possession):
Body found propped sideways against hedge... middle of maze. Seems to have dragged himself a short way.
A large stab-wound in the side seems to be the mortal blow.
-Caused by?
-Possibly long knife or similar blade
Signs of garroting as well on neck, but not as deep as would suggest death that way.
Expression very morbid, died quickly but in pain to judge from body position.
Jacket was wet with water or similar liquid...
strange for the warm, dry evening, smelled slightly of roses.
Upon questioning butler, claims is not perfume of Duchesne.

Thanks! {{{Although the map has been on page 15 for a long time now: makes me suspect people didn't read the rules after all!}}}
Emotionally I was fine of course, it's not like we're discussing Doctor Who or something!
I was just a bit frustrated that our RtD was going so slowly of late with its bumpy start.

- Spoiler:
- Going on the assumption that black clad figures dont act so suspiciously if they are just going for a train I will assume they were not heading down the lane to the station. They may have gone to the church but my instinct tells me to keep going the same direction. So I head off across the fields towards the woods to see what I can discover there, keeping an eye peeled for any other movement, or any obvious prints in the field.

That's alright Figgster, the rules are only important so far as they help it be fun. All I'm asking is for complete creative control over everything you do at all times anywhere ever! ...in the game that is.
No not really. It's like they say, rules for a game are only important so long as they help to make the game more fun. As long as we can have a simple back-and-forth on the action -> results from now on things will go swimmingly.
P.S.

I had two long-ass days of work in a row, and so I haven't had time to add the murder details yet. Sorry!

Re: Roll to Dodge!
I have run into this problem before Forest when DMing folk new to role playing games. The rules of what the player does and what is up to the DM to decide are not as obvious or as clear cut as it may seem to those of us who have been playing a long time.

Weeell, I added the Sergeants report of the murder details for Ringo and Marigold to the previous page.
Sorry about the wait, it took a while for me to get my notes back and get back into the idea of the game. Feel free to post your next action. It's midday Thursday and the sun has come out from behind the clouds to warm the wet and dripping countryside.

But yes, it's no wonder we've both lost track of things. I nearly forgot the name of the guy who was murdered!
Out of curiosity, and because I am slightly concerned, you do know Azriel that I added a description of Ashby Duchesne's death on the previous page?
It's at the bottom of "Round 4."
