Nice! I'll get right on that.

Re: Roll to Dodge!
Round 2
Wednesday Afternoon:
P.S.
As per the rules on pg. 15, a roll of 12 means Success on your action, but in such a way that disastrous results are forthcoming. Strangely three people rolled twelves this round. Go figure!
Wednesday Afternoon:
- Mr. Crumblebuckie-For All:
- [12] Leaving the pub after your few pints, you saunter out of town and into the countryside. The weather has taken a greyer turn, and swaths of thick rain wash over the fields and hedges. The country lanes are mostly deserted in the weather, but you do spot Ringo Drotts glancing stealthily in both directions before scrambling up out of the lane over a stone-wall. He carries a haversack and appears to be foraging for vegetables in the field!
You walk a little further and encounter a weathered gentleman on horseback by the name of Mr. Clayton Smith. He is a well-known farmer in the area, and in fact the same gentleman Dallin Stavely mentioned back at the pub!
Astonished at your good luck you introduce yourself and inquire after local goings-on.
You no more than let slip the word "gypsies" when Mr. Smith's aloofly-polite countenance changes and he breaks loose into a furious tirade against them.
"Field-wreckers! Bloody crop-thieving, ill-mannered, parsley-brained, two-bit ragamuffins!" Clayton glares out over the prospect of his fields. "Why, my good sir, this very last week I came across a veritable stampede of a track through my wheat fields over by Braxton Hall! Crushed wheat, a broken-open gate at one end of the field... Couple that with the goods stolen from two of my barns in the last week and the fiends seem intent upon ruining me!"
Unfortunately, directing Clayton's attention to his fields alerts him to Ringo's presence.
"Murder and Fire! There is one now making off with some of my cabbages!" he cries out as he wheels his horse around and charges for the nearby gate. In his haste he knocks you over with his horse's rump, sending you sprawling into the muddy ditch!
- Lady Rose-For All:
- [8] You spend the stormy afternoon feverishly digging away in the mud behind the Old Shock. Using a silver spoon you had lifted from the train you make a sizable hole in the ground before evening comes on.
All around you are empty barrels, old broken bits of furniture, and a largish rubbish heap which consists mostly of dirty newspapers and table scraps. You find an article on the front page of one while poking about in-between digging that talks about planned renovation of the Holy Trinity Church's main tower. The article is a few weeks old.
- Ringo Drotts-For All:
- [12] You hoist your backpack (which is really more of a haversack with a strap on it) and trudge out of town to the nearby vegetable fields. You don't see anyone nearby and so you climb over a stone wall and into the field. The mud sucks and pulls at your boots, but you gather a full bag of assorted potatoes, some corn, beets; and you are just cutting off some cabbage with your knife when a distant shout alerts you to a weather-beaten looking fellow on a tall horse trotting towards you over the muddy field. He appears to be furious and has drawn out a long riding crop!
Scrambling towards the woods you manage to hang on to the vegetables but the rider catches up to you before you can escape!
"TAKE MY VEGETABLES, WILL YOU!!" He screams, hitting you over the head with his crop. *thwack* "EAT my HARD EARNED PROFITS WILL YOU!!" *smack* "Curse you gypsy SCUM!!"
Breathless you dive under the hedge and he breaks off his pursuit with several parting comments concerning your ragged appearance and the integrity of your mother's sexual activities. You struggle through the thick hedge and scamper down the lane before he can start in on the really serious name-calling. You have the bag of veggies, but the welts on your head and back are a painful lesson!
- Marigold Scroggins-For All:
- [12] You make your way through the storm and rain a few miles out of town towards Braxton Hall, the gates out front are closed, so you hike through the fields surrounding the boundary hedge and make your way 'round to the back of the place. Through a hole int he hedge you spot the priest as he hurries through the rain from the main Hall to the Chapel and, clambering over the top of a heavy iron gate (and tearing your dress at the same time) you let yourself in the front door of the chapel.
You find him replacing the candles around the altar. He is a younger man, clothed all in black priest's robes. He has long black hair and a a slightly stooped posture that makes him look of normal height even though he is really quite tall.
You advance quietly up the main aisle and stop a few feet away, putting on your most penitent expression. You cough to announce your arrival.
"Virgin save us!" He shrieks and, wide-eyed, whirls around. The candles go tumbling out of his arms and rolling across the stone floor.
"Excuse us Father, we was just trying to talk to you private-like. I'm in need of a confessional." You cast your eyes downward. "It's awful hard trying to keep up a strong Catholic faith in an English town like this, wot with all these 'ere Protestant-Anglicannies around and such..."
He recovers from his shock slightly. "Yes, quite... but who the dickens are you and what the dickens are you doing here?"
He is still quite shaken by your sudden appearance and shoulders his way past you and down the aisle. "I don't know who you are and I can't help you anyway!" He says over his shoulder. He holds the door open for you with a look of reproach at your bold and unexpected arrival. "I am in private practice for the Duchesne's. Please, leave at once before I call the manservant to escort you off of the premises."
You leave in a huff and, as you hurry back across the grounds you consider that such a bold move so early on was perhaps a bit strong!
P.S.
As per the rules on pg. 15, a roll of 12 means Success on your action, but in such a way that disastrous results are forthcoming. Strangely three people rolled twelves this round. Go figure!

Re: Roll to Dodge!
Wow such quick responses!
Oh and Mrs. Figg:
Edit:
I relented and added more to yours Mrs. Figg, you snoop!
Oh and Mrs. Figg:
- Mrs. Figg's eyes only!:
- First of all:
1. If you are in fact reading all the spoilers, then you're reading far more than a single sentence and should be quite content, and
2. Everyone else rolled 12s which required convoluted results. They had to have something very good happen but then something really awful happen at the same time, which required more thought. When it came time to your character hiding out behind the Old Shock and digging a hole in the ground, well.. I was glad at the break from thinking! The only possible further interaction could have been that the owners spotted you, and since you rolled an 8 nothing bad was supposed to happen this round.
As they say, no news is good news.
Now stop reading other people's spoilers!
Edit:
I relented and added more to yours Mrs. Figg, you snoop!

So apparently 8 days is not enough time for Petty to consider his next move.

Sorry it's taking so long. I have work this week and I misplaced the notes I had for the game (they were on paper). I'll get the next round going soon.

So either I'm going wonky-at-the-screen or Mrs. Figg has yet to post since Round 2. (Her spoiler brackets on the preceding page are just more of the usual Mrs. Figg complaints.)
I was all set to update until I ran into that snag.
Edit: Mrs. Figg will be taking a nap.

Re: Roll to Dodge!
Round 3
Wednesday Evening:
A telegram arrives from the commissioner before dinner. He questions why none of his detectives have reported to the local police yet, who had waited at the train station all morning expecting you. Seeing no-one in policeman blue, they had assumed they had the wrong day. The commissioner suggests you pay them a visit on the morrow.
P.S.
Game note: You may now read all the spoiler boxes up until this point. I will change the "For X only."
I'll also add more of the townspeople and their relation to yourselves as you meet them. That's on page 16.
Goodluck!
Wednesday Evening:
- Mr. Crumblebuckie-For All:
- [7] You amble along the country roads, but despite your keeping an eye out for them, you do not meet with any gypsies. From your conversation with Clayton Smith you know the gypsies regular camp to be on the far side of the large Norman ruins that sprawl across the the top of the nearby hill. You do see some smoke in that distance, but do not have the time to find its source.
The clouds roll away into the west, and the sunset lights up the dripping landscape brilliantly. The first stars of the night are coming out when you finally turn around and head back to the Inn.
- Lady Rose-For All:
- You decide to take a nap. You are so overcome with exhaustion after digging with your spoon for so long--your knuckles bruised, your arms sore-- that you sleep right through 'til morning.
- Ringo Drotts-For All:
- [7] Evening has come, and the clouds that have rained steadily throughout the day have drifted away for a brilliant sunset. You make your way past the cold gravestones of the churchyard and enter through the heavy wooden doors. A priest, Alan Fairfield, is sweeping the floor inside. He is taken aback by your bruised face, and agrees to help you with your confession.
"I do not know where you are from," he says. "But Catholic confessions are not practiced in the Anglican church!" He does sit down and you tell him about your thieving ways. He seems rather embarrassed to be made privy to your petty crime, but listens patiently and asks that you come to church this coming Sunday. "There to receive the sacrament, as is good and righteous for all Englishman!"
When you ask Father Alan if he has any waffles, he gives you another strange look but says no, that he does not. He does, however, go into a lengthy discussion about the origins of waffles from the patterned communion plates of the 10th century. He is clearly a well-studied man in any case!
When you ask him about suspicious activities lately he smiles and tells and you that you are in fact the most interestingly suspicious person he has met in quite some time. His superior, the Deacon Gregory Byham, would normally have been the one to pay a visit to the grieving family, but relations between the Duchesnes and the Anglican church are rather poor. They are, unfortunately, of the Catholic persuasion; he tells you.
- Marigold Scroggins -For All:
- (This is in response to your first posted action for this round. About getting a bite to eat and then coming back to spy some more)
[3] Your dress torn (in two places now) from scrambling over fences, you struggle back over the fields toward the main road. The rain begins to dwindle, but the treetops drip huge drops that run down off your head into your face. You don't see the edge of the ditch until too late in the gathering darkness and you tumble right over the edge! There is a rush of air as you fall and then a terrible thud as your head hits a rock in the watery bottom of the hidden drainage ditch.
Thankfully your bonnet took some of the force and, with crumpled headwear and a cut on your forehead, you groggily make your way back to town.
- That Night at the Inn:
- Eventually all four of you arrive at the Inn that night. Petty seems in good spirits. He tells you of some strange-sounding matter with some local gypsies, and swears that it bears some looking into!
Lady Rose's room is locked and the most enormous snores come reverberating through the frame. The proprietress says she has not seen her since 5 o'clock!
The others are shocked by Ringo's cuts and bruises. He is unperturbed however. And after ordering some waffles and applying them with jam as a poultice to his face, he shares how his foray went.
Marigold Scroggins is last to arrive. The dinner things have been cleared away and the sliver of a moon is rising over the town when she drags her torn clothes and aching head up the back staircase of the Inn. She relates what she has been up to. Well, mostly, she leaves out the details of her flirting.

Re: Roll to Dodge!
- Spoiler:
- I wake up . with a headache and a mouth feeling as caked in slobber as the inside of Pettys kilt. I take an aspirin and have a nice cup of tea and some toast, then finding I need to go to the loo I go in search of one but alas I am still in the cellar and so I delicately defecate into a bag of salt n onion crisps. feeling much refreshed I clamber up some wooden stairs and through a trap door into the pub. I almost trip over something lying prone in the gloom. Its Petty in a drunken stupor. I give him an tentative kick in the gorbals and he grunts and mutters in his slumbers and twitches the enormous Donkey ears sprouting from his head. yes dear reader. Donkey ears. During the night a fairy has sprinkled fairy juice on him.
